Warren Lasch Conservation Center - H.L. Hunley Submarine

The Hunley became the world's first successful combat submarine in 1864 with the sinking of the USS Housatonic. After making world history, she mysteriously vanished. Lost at sea for over a century, she was finally found in 1995 and then raised from the ocean floor in 2000. Since then, scientists have been at work to conserve the legendary submarine and solve the mystery of her disappearance. Tours of the Hunley include viewing the Hunley in her 75,000 conservation tank, facial reconstructions of the crew, and interactive exhibits that tell the submarine's fascinating tale throughout the centuries.

North Charleston and American LaFrance Fire Museum and Educational Center

The visitor center was small compared to other centers during a 24 day trip, yet a very helpful staff member. The center leads to the museum. My visit didn't last as long as I had hoped, had a second site at 12:00, while the center didn't open till 10:00 on Saturday. Photographed twenty vehicles-five horse drawn & fifteen 1900's fire engines, that range from a 1857 Button & Blade Hand Pump Fire steam engine to a 1969 American La France 900 Series Dominion Pumper. All vehicles are showroom quality. Glass cases have helmets & fire fighting apparatuses for every day fire fighting. Along one wall are the earliest types of firefighting-back to Roman times-Working in Turnout, Gear, Layered For Protection, High Pressure, Fire Fighting Nozzles, Enhanced 911, On Scene Communications & Modern Communications. Each vehicle is behind a three foot tall metal railing with a detailed history of each vehicle. For the children is a stairway to a tunnel slide. A theater shows about a 12 minute video about fire fighting. Plenty of free parking & a small gift hop. Any person with an interest in fire fighting, equipment, vehicles & a history of fire fighting, this museum will not disappoint. Even the children should enjoy a visit. For most visitors at most one hour should enough time, where my visit was a hour & half. A visit is highly recommended. NO large crowds.

Large taproom and production facility on Aragon Avenue in Park Circle, North Charleston, SC. Beer, wine, liquor and food right on Noisette Creek.

We enjoyed an afternoon at Blind Tiger in downtown Charleston so learned about local breweries and got several recommendations. Lots to see & do in town and on islands & beaches, including Ft Sumpter tour, so we could only squeeze in a visit en route to the airport. Holy City is in a friendly industrial room with many choices and good food (the pretzels are sin-fully good!), so we enjoyed ourselves just a few minutes from CHS. It's the kind of place where you may not mind hearing about (another) flight delay. Cheers.

Riverfront Park

Yes please in Charleston Or the greater Charleston area to walk your dog let him runoff leash if they’re able to without acting crazy.Nice breeze from the river! Boardwalks along & over the marsh, #2 piers, cool playground lots of coveted picnic space & bench swings for couples. And THE VIEWS This is me and my dog Lucy’s favorite place. I can wear her out Fast. She likes it when it rains and the grass is soggy & slops it up! Even better... this place is never that crowded & People walk the outside perimeter, fish on piers AND I hardly see anybody with dogs out here. There must be about a 200 X 50 yards of freshly cut grass in the middle That the dog can run crazy and he can play ball and throw frisbee, etc. I like to go around 4:20. Love going to the beaches but this place has a lot of perks. No sand, lots of spacious, green grass, views & breeze. It’s a killer place And surprise not a lot of people out there when I go. Check out all the LOCAL shops, cafés, bars, breweries. GOOD PEEPS????

Wannamaker County Park

This place is truly amazing. I live in North Charleston so we go here often. When entering the park, on the right is Whirlin Waters. This place is a water park that's great for families as well. It's a separate attraction and price, but it's a nice place. The cost to enter the park is $2 per person. The price of admission includes the picnic tables, playgrounds, walking trails a person can bike on, fishing streams, and a large water area. The kids love to play at this water area. There are places for anyone not interested in the water to sit around the edge and watch the people in the sprinklers. I love fishing so I like to bass fish in the streams. I have caught some nice fish in the water. I am not sure if they are good to eat since I catch and release. Trees are everywhere so it allows you to stay cool on the hot days. A person can rent bicycles or small paddle boats to enjoy while here as well. We always bring our own bikes and ride around. If you have young kids interested in thrills, bring a large cardboard box. There is a giant hill they can slide down. Kids slide down all day. You can find cardboard boxes but it will only be pieces and it's not going to be as fun for the kids. Hope this review helps.

Northwoods Mall is my favorite mall in the Charleston area. I still enjoy being able to walk and shop in an actual mall and the experience cannot be recreated online. Northwoods has a great group of stores from the department store anchors, to the other shops, to the food court, to the kiosks. I like being able to go back to the same place from my childhood as an adult. Very cool mall to be at.
