unique place in Europe where all the animals have a history. Wounded, captured or abandoned animals in the Ark of Refuge had a life before being greeted: today more than 1 200, representing 150 species on 15 hectares. There's no training, no show. But felines, monkeys, reptiles, bears, birds ... that come to life. Quite simply. Created in 1976 by Christian Huchedé, the association Cepan, recognized public utility since 2014, works for three missions: animal protection, social inclusion, public awareness for animal rights. It manages two distinct activities, the Refuge de l'Arche (1 200 animals, 150 species) and the Wildlife and Environment Centre Local Wild "Valentine Perrin and Jacques" (360 animals supported in 2015).
Good views of all the animals when we visited - and being able to read the stories of how the animals were rescued and ended up in the refuge added to the experience.

Stopped here on the way to Saint Suzanne, and what a treat! This is a wonderfully set up exhibition, with a lovely route around the whole village and information points explaining the sites, including: Temple, Roman Baths, Ampthitheatre, and hill fort. Really good value - could easily spend several hours walking around the wonderful sites.

The museum's opening is the result of the discovery in 1993 of a remarkable 1100 year old palace within its walls. It's the best conserved Carolingian civilian building in Europe.Since the 10th century till nowadays, the castle has been used as : palace, fortified castle, prison and now a museum. You will discover the castle history as well as archaeological collections from the Middle Ages.

This is a truly stunning village in the Mayenne region, with the castle taking centre stage in re-telling its history. It is a wonderful set up, with breathtaking views from the ramparts and at centre stage is a museum with wonderful exhibits to assimilate. Walking around the village, there are also lovely signs and pointers to each buildings' history. Really worth a visit!
