Bodega Casa Primicia

Casa Primicia is the oldest civil building in the medieval town of Laguardia, the place where the Church received the taxes of the peasants since the XV Century, the first winery in Rioja Alavesa. Visiting Casa Primicia you will discover the true history of wine in Rioja and you will be amazed by our incredible caves digged 900 years before where we keep our best secret; our wine.

What a beautiful bodega! We had a wonderful tour and tasting here. They made us feel welcome and safe. Our guide Juan gave a very in-depth and knowledgable tour of the cellars in English. The tastings were great, with extra nibbles. A must visit if you are in LaGuardia, would recommend to all. It’s tucked away just inside the town walls with incredible 11th century cellars.

This is a very impressive tour. The art and architecture is superb. The lady at the office where you get the tickets speaks Spanish and not much else. Someone in your group needs to understand the language for the tour.

My husband and I booked the English wine tour and were not disappointed. Erica, our tour guide spoke excellent English, so language was not a barrier. It was so much fun to go down into the caves--really created a wonderful ambiance. She explained their procedures, shared interesting background details, and allowed us up on the ladder to look into the cement tank. Loved the way she explained the "before and after" aging information on the flavors of the wine. Erica gave ample pours with perfect "pacing" of the four wines we tried. We ordered a case of their red wine to be shipped back to Washington State, and it arrived quickly (three weeks) and in perfect shape. We would highly recommend this wine tour adventure--it's very different from what you would experience in the US.

Came in off-season. Had really nice tour, learned a lot about the wines at this unique small-scale winery within the city walls (in underground tunnels below) La Guardia. Excellent wine tasting too.

Bodegas Campillo

The connection between wine and architecture finds its finest example in Bodegas Campillo. Established in 1990, this is the first winery designed by an architect as an unique project, where the beauty of its architectural forms gets together with the best technical and functional requirements for the production and ageing of wine. The winery is built as a Bordeaux château, in the centre of a vineyard of 50 hectares of Tempranillo grapes, located in the foothills of the Sierra de Cantabria, at the foot of the medieval village of Laguardia. It is a winery to enter the world of wine and to live an unforgettable experience.

Eguren Ugarte

Reviewed By AlbertSalichs - Manresa, Spain

Eguren Ugarte is a wine cellar located near Laguardia, one of the most important wine towns in La Rioja Alavesa. We decides to do a guided visit in this wine cellar and it was wonderful. Really, the winery is big and it has some tunnels dug by hands of the current owner, where a lot of wine bottles are kept. Really it is a very noce place. Also, here we learned a lot about the history of wineries in this region and we could taste three different wines (a rosé one and two reds), which were very good. Also, when we finished the guided visit, we went to the bar and we did a brunch with some other glasses of red wine and cured ham. Excellent.

El Gaitero Plaza

Reviewed By Noraatc - Sudbury, United States

El Gaitero Plaza is the heart of lovely Laguardia. Crowds are always there, bats, cafes and restaurants around are countless, the houses with wrought iron railings of their balconies look charming. Loved the plaza and old narrow streets radiating from it. Nearby is the promenade to walk and take in the sweeping views of the Rioja Valley’s vineyards.
