History is visible all around Goslar, from well-preserved old houses to the Romanesque imperial palace elevated over the city. Designated a World Cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO, the ore mine at Rammelsberg has been closed since 1988, but now teaches visitors about the more than 100 years of mining that occurred in the Harz mountains.

We came here as part of a group. We did the english tour where as our relatives did the german tour. I did notice that at the beginning whre the your starts the german tour included lowering the items which hang from the ceiling but on or english tour this was not demonstrated to us. Our tour started where the model of the pump was. The children were well incuded in the tour and one of our grandchildren who is scared of the dark was offered a torch. The interesting part of the tour was the end part where we climbed the many many stairs up a ladder to get back to surface. We did not spend much time in the land museums afterwards.

We have done this walk several times and really enjoy the nature and the view over the lakes. Here is quiet and nice and you can take different sidepaths either to shorten your walk or to see other parts of the forrested area and the mountain Bocksberg. This is great for walking any time of the year.

I was in Goslar at the beginning of December when the Christmas market was already opened. It was the best place for Christmas mood! At the central square of Goslar were thematic „shops“ with one million kinds of hot wine (glühwein), gooood German sausages, grilled meat and vegetables, cacao and a lot of alcohol free drinks for young people or drivers :) All this atmosphere is with Christmas songs, carols and smiling people wishing you to have good evening! All buildings around Marktplatz are from the 15-16th century and are under the defence of UNESCO and each of them is worth to see it!!! One of the best places to enjoy Christmas Marktplatz is the tower of the Dom near the square, but the best time is in the evening when the Christmas lights are on. The tower is open till 19 o’clock and the entrance costs 2.50€/adult. As a gift with entrance you will receive the post card of the tower with the stamped date of your visit.

This palace is astonishing when you look up to it from the parking place. Get closer and see how fine this building is and I really recommend you to visit inside. Here you find great wall carpets and paintings and a fine view over Goslar.

This gate looks magnificent when approaching the town from outside, showing the power. To reach it from old town it is a bit of walking out of the town centre but it is definitely worth it. Besides the Royal Palace it is next must see in Goslar.
