Captain Barry's Back Bay Cruise is an INTERACTIVE HANDS-ON FEET-WET, floating classroom & research vessel. We’ll dig in the mud at a sandbar for sea creatures; identify and hold crabs WITHOUT GETTING PINCHED; head to Shell Island to collect shells; hunt jellyfish; haul in the trawler net and get a taste of Chincoteague’s famous Salt Oysters. And, along the way, we’ll identify the many birds that are found around the waters of Chincoteague. We use all of our senses to make our cruises informative AND FUN. You can relax, sit back on the boat, be the photographer. There’s never any pressure but, always lots of fun. This is the real deal to get your hands dirty and your feet wet and experience the life of a Chincoteague Waterman!

Specializing in Wild Ponies since 2006! Ask about our Afternoon Pony Tour, available daily. Family friendly nature tours of Chincoteague and Assateague Islands. Our trip combines a sight-seeing and guided tour together. We search for wild ponies, dolphin, bald eagles, sea turtles, sting rays, all manner of wild fowl, and local creatures. We talk about local history, culture, seafood industry, economy, and modern day life. Our signature “Around the Island Tour” covers over 25 miles of coastline, in 2-2.5 hours, never passing the same spot twice. We specialize in taking small groups, on extended trips, into isolated areas. Most trips take 6 guests max. In 2016 we added a 35’, 18 passenger boat to our fleet. We run our 35' boat on our afternoon pony tour, and by request for larger groups. Eight generations of our family have lived on Chincoteague Island. We are a real, small, local family owned and operated business by Capt. Dan, his wife Miss Abby, and his father Capt. Ray.

The Chincoteague Cultural Alliance is a non-profit arts organization that was established in 2005. We went from having a handful of events like the 2nd Saturday Art Stroll and Plein Art Show and Sale, to producing over 100 events a year. In December 2015, we purchased our home at 6309 Church Street that we had been renting since 2011. CCA is a very busy organization and is 100% volunteer. Our programs include: -Annual Plein Art Show and Sale -Chincoteague Island Theatre Company performances, dinner theatre, play readings, and more -Annual Photo Contest -Farmers Market from April-October -Second Saturday Artful Flea -Holly Day Market - Island Coffeehouse -Classes in everything you can imagine -Saturday Kid Art Class -Music at the Dock and Movies in the Park at Robert Reed Park - Storytelling Story Swaps, our own Art Gallery. We also gift three graduating artistic seniors with scholarships. Since 2014, CCA has hosted the Chincoteague Island Farmers and Artisans Market on our property.
I visited on the second to last Sat they were open. Not too many vendors, but I was able to spend over $40 so I would say they had all that I and my friends needed. The vendor with the shopping bags made out of feed bags was there. I had purchased 2 in Sept, and 2 more this visit. White Ravins Market was there and we were able to thank them for the wonderful Smith Island cake that I had purchased from their store. We also bought their crab cakes and tomato pie and pumpkin role. Freshly shucked oysters were also purchased and brought home and fried. Very delicious. I could go on and on. A fun place to shop.
