Denmark's largest island is so much more than simply the home of the country's dynamic capital, Copenhagen. Zealand also offers a delightful array of holiday homes and villas, pleasing harbors and sandy beaches, fringed by forests where castles lurk. Major destinations include the UNESCO-designated, Dutch Renaissance-style Kronborg Castle in Helsingor and the Viking attractions, cathedral and music festival of Roskilde. To the south bobs a flotilla of beautiful and relatively untouched islands.

This bridge connects Nyhavn and Christianshavn. It was opened in 2016. It has a special design, as it retracts to let ships pass, and then connects again in a horizontal sliding motion.

Nyhavn, a rough and tumble waterfront area dating back to the 17th century and now turned into a colourful restaurant and entertainment area, has much to offer. It's colourful, historical buildings, the oldest dates back to 1681, has hosted some of Denmark's finest, one Hans Christian Andersen in particular. The Nyhavn side of the harbour also gives you access to a lot of the Copenhagen sights-to-see as well. This is not to say that you should ignore the Christianshavn side of the harbour. The opening of the Inderhavnsbroen in 2016, a modern pedestrian/bicycle bridge, allows you easy access to cross over the inner harbour. You can enjoy the treats and colourfulness of Nyhavn and with an easy wander, cross over to Christianshavn. Christianshavn, dating back to the 17th century, is primarily a residential area. Today, it also serves as the headquarters for some notable companies like Nordea. Some government and cultural institutions, such as the Copenhagen Opera house are also located here. It is the home of many historical buildings and churches, like the Church of our Saviour, the church with the spiral tower. And of course, home to Christiania. There are many restaurants to be found here as well, most notably, the Restaurant Noma. Also, just as you cross over from Nyhavn, you will come to a collection of outdoor eateries in what is called Broen's Gadekokken. Here you can sit, eat, relax and enjoy a visit while you enjoy the sights and sounds of the harbour! A little further on you will come to a fine coffee and wine bar called The Corner. They can offer a fine cup of specialty coffee and a fine treat to enjoy along side of it. The Corner is part of the Restaurant 108, which is a Michelin restaurant, both of which are located in the same building. The Inderhavnsbroen gives you a chance to enjoy many sites and "scenes", you just might have to stick around for a while!
