The 10 Best Bridges in California, United States

May 13, 2022 Hector Krause

California is a fertile, peaceful place where you’ll find a near-equal balance of vineyards and deserts, beaches and mountains, hippies and traditionalists. Catch an epic wave in Big Sur or swirl a glass in Napa Valley. Be dazzled by the Joshua Tree night sky or just star-gaze in Hollywood. Swish down the slopes of a Tahoe ski resort, or cruise across the Golden Gate Bridge with the top down and the music blasting. Above all, don’t forget to soak up some Golden State sunshine.

Coronado Bridge

A beautiful bridge connecting San Diego to Coronado.

Reviewed By AdvtrTrvlr - Camarillo, United States

We both drove across the bridge and sailed underneath the bridge. If you drive across the bridge there is now no toll to pay but be careful with your speed once you are on Coronado Island. The maximum speed is 25 mph all over the entire island and there are many cops waiting to give you a ticket. By far the best way to see the bridge is by taking a bay cruise; more specifically the one that does the southern part of the bay which goes underneath the Coronado Bridge and also by about 30 Navy ships. We took a Hornblower cruise and the captain explained the Navy ships in great detail. I would also recommend that company. I would only take the one hour southern bay cruise and not the two hour cruise.

San Francisco Bay Bridge

One of the longest bridges in the world, this spectacular structure links downtown San Francisco with the city of Oakland.

Reviewed By RichardR550 - Westminster, United States

Everyone knows the Golden Gate Bridge. The San Francisco Bay Bridge is that poor old second cousin to the Golden Gate. But do not overlook this gem in the city and on the bay. Sure, it is part of the transportation system, getting you across the Bay and back, to and from Oakland. It's as good as anyplace to sit, snarled up in a traffic jam.....Take the time to look beyond that purpose for the bridge. The bridge is also a great piece of art that frames so many aspects of the city and life in San Francisco. As a photographer the Bay Bridge must be one of your subjects during your next visit to the Bay. The bridge is dramatic 24 hours a day, always a good subject. My favorite time is at night when the Bay Lights bring it to life. My favorite photo point is anywhere you can see the bridge, but I especially like Treasure Island where you can see the bridge, the lights and the skyline. Be there during the golden and blue hours for you shots. They will be amazing. And if you are adventurous, drive to the top of Treasure Island so you can walk to the view point where the tunnels come out of the west side of the hill and extends on into the city. Not many people get that spectacular shot. Well worth the effort for that one. Next time you are in San Francisco, take the time to stop and admire the second cousin and appreciate the beauty and function of this beautiful bridge. Cheers.

We found out about this bridge, from a lady who had crossed it, during a trip to Ireland. It is a unique suspension bridge in a nice residential area between the airport and the zoo. The bridge is over 100 years old and it has a nice view. This is well worth the short side trip if you are in San Diego.

Scheduled for completion in Summer 2004, this unusually designed bridge, functioning as a sundial at one end and conveying a sense of weightlessness, connects the north and south campuses of Turtle Bay Exploration Park.
