Virginia can make American history come alive. Visit Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, tour Civil War battlefields, explore the living history museum at Williamsburg… the possibilities are endless (if the kids object, break up the historical sightseeing with a visit to Busch Gardens). Arlington, site of Arlington National Cemetery, is just across the Potomac River from all the major sites in D.C. In addition to beaches and historical attractions, Virginia has plenty to offer outdoor enthusiasts. Active families will love the Blue Ridge Highlands, where hiking, canoeing and tubing are just a few of the activities offered. Couples might enjoy a romantic mountain cabin in Virginia after a day of hiking in Shenandoah National Park.

Sly Clyde is Virginia's first #coastal cidery, using 100% "craftily crushed" Virginia apples. All our ciders are produced on site by an award-winning team of cider makers. Join us in the tasting room (Starting August 25, 2018) for exclusive ciders, tours, and a lovely back patio. There are many restaurants in the area and Fort Monroe is less than a mile away!
Walked around Phoebus and decided to deck into Sly Clyde’s. Gorgeous old home with beautiful woodwork! Enjoyed a drink on the back patio, soaking in the January sunshine! Very busy afternoon for them, with a food truck serving up some yummy pizzas. Great to see this establishment thriving in a cute little piece of Phoebus! Cheers, Sly Clyde’s!!

We went to the brewery on a sunny Saturday and sat outside. There is so much to explore. The beer choices were delicious, and the inside of the barn was like nothing I've ever seen. Incredible nostalgia from America with old horse drawn carriages and the stories behind each one. The place is wayyyyyy better than anything we expected. We stayed for three hours but could have stayed forever. You won't be disappointed! . Worth the trip from JMU!

This distillery has a fabouls array of whiskeys (bonded or not) and allows 6 tastings to pick out the best ones that fit your pleasure. The staff is extrememly knowledgable to let you know how the spritis are handled and checked. The plant is easy to find and able to have you sit and try the tastes and ask for others that may be better to your taste; including moonshine. This is the best one I found since the several others I went to try. They even have a sales fellow (Tim) who even comes to other states to show them around. Tim will be in New Jersey this month and you can always ask when he will be in your area or in another state.

Located on the famed beverage corridor along Rt. 151 in Nelson County, the flagship Bold Rock Cider Barn opened in August 2014 and represents our company headquarters, center of operations and primary cider production facility. The ‘Chapel of Apple’ as it is affectionately known is a beautifully rustic timber framed barn overlooking the Rockfish River. Our staff will be happy to explain the process behind our award-winning craft hard cider and following a tasting, enjoy a pint, flight or delicious food from our Feed Room. The Nellysford Cider Barn is open daily at 11 AM.
Bold Rock is my go to cider at the grocery store and visiting the cidery in Nellysford was a real treat. Nice atmosphere with both indoor and outdoor seating -- terraced above the Rockfish River which you can walk to and enjoy. Limited food menu at the moment due to COVID but everything we tried was delicious. First visit we were able to get draft cider (Friday). Our second visit three or four weeks later (Sunday) only had canned cider available. Had a flight sampler the first visit and loved all the ones I tried. Flight sampler not available the other visit. Not sure why the difference, but we just rolled with it.

Alewerks Brewing Company opened in 2006, foreseeing the increasing demand for quality local craft beer. Alewerks quickly established a reputation for fine brews with a commitment to classic standards while pressing boundaries with bold flavors. Loyal visitors return day after day, month after month and year after year to new developments as Alewerks expands its facility, reach and goals.
We enjoyed a couple beers (Superb IPA, Thaw Amber Ale) from this local brewery. Both were superbly delicious. They have 16 beers on tap! We also had a hot doughy pretzel with some type of mustard sauce which was quite good. I wish we could have taken the tour, but we missed the last one. Smoking/vaping is prohibited (so we can all better enjoy the beer!). We were there on a Friday afternoon (4PM), and there was a great mix of people...not too crowded. It's definitely a fun atmosphere with so many choices.

If you are looking for a beautiful space to hold a gathering and be socially distanced, then St. George Brewing Company is an excellent choice! We held a family gathering in the new outdoor space and it was perfect. The spacious tent with heaters kept us all cozy, while in an open-air, safe, and sanitized environment. We were able to reserve it for a reasonable fee and the staff was fantastic. The beer tasting was fun and delicious! With all the challenges right now, it was great to be in a place where we felt not only safe, but well cared for ~and we had a blast!
