In the past we have done the tour near the near the shores of Lough Corrib on bicycles but this time we used a friend’s boat. There are also boats for hire at several locations around the lough, and boatmen are also available. We headed out for a cruise into the Lough and had great views of the many islands and the multiformed Connemara Mountains. The lake (lough” in Irish/Gaelic) is famous for its salmon fishing and wild brown trout, with the added avantage that angling is free on Lough Corrib, which is 33 miles long from Maum Bridge to near Galway City, making it the second largest lake in Ireland with over 365 islands. After tea in the majestic Ashford Castle we later visited the adjacent Lough Carra and Lough Mask in county Mayo – stunning in fine weather and a most enjoyable area to visit.

This place is a real hidden gem in the countryside of county Clare. The owner gave us a business card with the above information and said he just took the business over from his ageing parents. It is a fifteen acre fishing lake with boats available for hire and everything..... I promised the chap that I would write a review for him but his business doesnt seem to be on this......

Doughmore Bay is a place hard to find elsewhere in Ireland. Kilometers of sand, each day different and loved by pet holders and their dogs, surfers, beach walkers and sometimes even golfers. A plate gives evidence of a tragedy which happened 1941, when a British Sunderland flying boat had to make a forced landing on the sea You will meet sea gulls, gannets and, if you are lucky, two Border Collies who go for a stroll every morning. When you want to walk the whole bay look for low tide.

First My trip was in May 2019, not August, so the foot traffic was not so crowded and I could meander along at my leisure. I'm a former Seattle native, now living in AZ, and being near the water again, in this magical town on the Atlantic ocean fulfilled any desire to feel what was lost was found again. Anyone visiting Ireland really needs to consider Galway as a place to visit and fall in love with, as I did. I hope to visit Ireland again in 2021 and am planning on Galway as my base of operation. Maybe I can get a job at the local tour agency!!

This is a beautiful man made lake that is teeming with wild life. A must for any bird lover. If you just want somewhere peaceful to walk with the family and feed the ducks it ticks that box too. The roadway is a public road but is one way and is fairly quiet. The lake is located a short walk from the historic Marfield village which is also very picturesque
