Hired a 70' narrow boat, for 7 days, from Sally Narrowboats at Bradford on Avon. Meandered up to Bath for Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Cruised back and stopped off at various points. Had some lovely meals at canal side pubs and walks along the towpath. We now feel so chilled out - a wonderful way to spend quality time with family. Loved every minute. The Narrowboat was warm and well equipped - would highly recommend this relaxing type of break to everyone - it was also fun working the locks and swing bridges!

As you would expect on a sunny Saturday the seaside is a popular destination for people. Canoe Lake is just a short walk from the sea front and has a huge boating lake with large "Swans" for you to pedal about on. That's not all in the area. There is a huge children's play area, the model village, natural history museum and mini golf also in the area so you will find plenty to do if you need to burn up some energy for the journey home.

We live 10 minutes walk from this lovely place, and it takes about 20 minutes to walk around its shores. If you want a quiet peaceful walk, go early morning, you'll see the geese and swans still resting and meet only a few dog walkers. If you have young kids, then take them to the swings and they will beg to stay longer. If you are needing a coffee or ice cream, then call in at the Piump Duck. If you want to spot an exotic resident, then go to the east side and look for the terrapins. On a summer evening you will see spectacular sunsets across the south downs from here. On a Sunday Afternoon it attracts the crowds, running and happy children, hiring the rowing boats and families with picnics. And, of course, its free!.

Fleet Pond is the largest freshwater lake in Hampshire and the nature reserve has 54.6 hectares (141 acres) of varied habitats. The pond itself occupies approximately half of this area. The surrounding land features heathland, woodland, reedbed and marsh, and is home for many species of birds, butterflies, dragonflies and wild flowers. Fleet Pond is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI.) The area is managed by the Hart District Council Countryside Ranger Service in partnership with the Fleet Pond Society which provides generous support to the Countryside Rangers as well as offering exciting volunteer opportunities for the local community. The Fleet Pond Restoration Project is run in partnership between Hart District Council, Fleet Pond Society, Natural England and the Environment Agency. To help restore Fleet Pond Nature Reserve to a healthier and more valuable amenity for wildlife and people. The sites main car park is situated just off of Cove Road (A3012) it is FREE to park here. There is a height restriction of 2.1m. Fleet Train Station car park can also be used and has quick access to the site. However this is charged Monday-Saturday. Fleet Pond also has a designated picnic area. Surfaced paths make access easy for wheelchairs, pushchairs and bicycles. There is NO FISHING at Fleet Pond until the season opens on the 16th June. Please keep dogs under close control.
Whether you want to walk the dog or just get away from the rat race, Fleet Pond gives you a complete reconnection with Nature with woodland, heathland, wetland and the pond itself. A truly beautiful and tranquil nature reserve in the midst or urban chaos. If you want to go further, Fleet Pond has a fantastic group of volunteers who get together to help manage and nurture the reserve while having fun, meeting new friends and learning new skills. Do grab a picnic (and binoculars) and treat yourself to a beautiful, natural, free experience.

This natural harbour is a haven for birdlife as well as being a place to watch activities on the water. If you wish, you can just sit and watch the world go by. pick a fine day and bring your binoculars, there's always something to see.

We went on a dog walk around the lakes, not so easy to find if you don’t know how to get there. Aim for NATS Swanwick, and turn right at the mini roundabout just before the gatehouse, this will take you down a small windy road to get to the car park. Lots of sensory things to do with kids there too. I would recommend keeping kids and dogs close as the lakes could easily be fallen into if they slipped. They recommend that dogs be kept on leads if they are likely to jump in the lake as it is a nature reserve. Very peaceful, I’ve never seen more than 2 people there! (Although we do go during the winter more). Can take anywhere from 15-1.5 hours to walk around, depending on what route you take - lots of sign posts to help you choose where to go, or just follow any path! Very well maintained and is beautiful. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a bit of quiet time or a mindful walk.
