The lady in the reception is very friendly and helpful. She's calls on the day to check if you still coming. The guest house is clean, beautiful and a good value for money. What we see on the internet is really what it is in real life. I don't really like the location though.

Magnificent upmarket guest house in the heart of South Africa. Attention to detail ensures comfort and happiness of all guests. Breakfast is included, while other meals may be arranged with receptionist. Mini tuck shop and alcoholic beverages are also available. Mthatha is one of the great heritage sites, where Nelson Mandela started his political life as a freedom fighter, also surrounding Mthatha are beautiful beaches and unspoilt nature...which all makes for a great stop over during your travel.
Stayed in umtata for 3 nights on business. Rooms are clean. Linen was not sufficient eg towels. Breakfast was not good. Not enough choices. They could have made an effort as we were vegetarian and halaal. Rooms very small. Baths small. Congested parking. Two and half km from city. Traffic on road very bad. Wont use this place again

64-year-old female traveling solo. Very disappointing is being generous. Do not stay here. Room is adequate, bathroom has chipped tile antiquated and stained sink, I would not get in the bathtub. Not that I would get in the bathtub anyway, since there was no hot water whatsoever. Really scary from a security perspective. It was clear of the doors have been clawed, and the very bright security lights all night long, which are lit up my room, clearly indicating this was not good area of town. Once again, do not stay here.

# Spotted Grunter Resort is situated on the banks of the mighty Umzumvubu river in the heart of the Transkei's wild coast. Our air-conditioned units make for a comfortable stay all year round. Units are fully contained for self catering. Braai facilities as well as a fully equipped restaurant and bar are on site. Large lawns with fantastic views of mountains. Relax on our deck overlooking the river or at our sparkling swimming pool.
Overall a great place to stay. Food is really good, kudos to the chef. We stayed in the rooms next to the road (and petrol station), very noisy and disruptive. Next time we will opt for a room closer to the river. Stunning views and friendly staff. I would definitely recommend staying with The Spotted Grunter Resort.

We had a visit to the restaurant that coincided with load-shedding (no electricity) so our quick bite turned into a loooong lunch! Our waitress was friendly and attentive, and the chef himself came out to explain the situation to the table, and make suggestions on items on the menu that he was able to prepare for us. We took his suggestion on the starters and then waited the hour for the lights to come back, for our mains - and how glad we were! The mushroom-sauce burgers were enormous, and the seafood platter was perfect for two! Delicous! We will be back!

On arrival we were barely greeted, but the full payment was demanded immediately. My wife found the room unclean with hair on the bedside table and had to clean the toilet. With no visible security, we did not sleep very well as half the windows did not have any burger bars. We also had to lock the sliding door, so the room was hot all night.

What was supposed to be an enjoyable stay in this hidden paradise has become a nightmare for me. The man of the place has treated me with such unexplainable hostility and disrespect that has forced me to complain and ask for cancellation through Booking.Com, and to write this review. These are the incidents I have experienced; on Monday this week I had a friend of mine who came to pick up stuff from me whuch I had brought for him from Joburg. We were sitting together at the lounge when me and my friend noticed this unfriendly look by the man owner. He kept moving around as if he wants to say something until my friend had to drive out of the parking he had used when a booked in guest arrived. Two days ago after 11pm I arrived and found the place in the dark. I opened to get in and to lock. As i was struggling in the dark to lock, the man came down with the torchlight and in an irritable voice told me I'm not supposed to lock the door. This was the second time I was feeling this irritation with me, which I still ignored. Yesterday I had breakfast and also had to join a virtual meeting. No issues. Today I did the same, but decided to move to the lounge area as I didn't want to disturb the other guests. The lady of the place came to me and told me to go back to the main table as eating was not allowed at the lounge area, and I obliged. Then I was rudely interrupted during my breakfast meeting by the man to be told I should stop my meeting as I was disturbing the other guests. I told him his wife told me to come back and eat my breakfast from there. He then angrily shouted at me to stop, and I told him I'm in the middle of a meeting. He moved away and then all of a sudden the Wi-Fi was cut off. The man has been rude and unfriendly to me for no inexplicable reason. Now I'm battling to cancel with a refund as I cannot stay in a place where I feel unwelcome. The guests who were with me during breakfast will hopefully be my witness to this horror show.

Thee worst service i have ever revieved from any B&B.... i will never ever making a booking or stay at this place. Management (Jimmy) is extremely Arrogant with no customer service or proffessionalism. Front desk personnel are incompetent I slept at the estsblishment about 2 times before and will never be going back there again. Called in early in the day to reserve a room and they CONFIRMED a room was available. Three hours later they call again and say there are no more rooms. When i ask to speak to management, they were of absolutely of no help, arrogant and rude, slammed the call in my ear . They call again after an hour and say they do have a room available, when i get to establishment im told yet again that there are no more rooms avaible. Im sooo disappointed and felt disrespected and disregarded. I would never advice anyone to make a booking here. No one apologised for this mistake nor even offer assistance.
