Former palaces and Arab mansions along the twisting streets of Stone Town hint at a grander age for this port city on the western coast of Zanzibar. The Old Fort, built in the 1700s to fend off the Portuguese, now hosts local performances, a café and an art gallery. Overstuffed bazaars lend an air of nonstop bustle. Mafia Island Marine Park sits just offshore, a haven for snorkeling the local reefs. Day tours visit working plantations where the island's legendary spices are grown.

Kiponda Bed and Breakfast is in a historical house dating back to the 18th century when it was built as part of the palace; simple and functional yet friendly and welcoming, nested in the charming Stone Town of Zanzibar. This beautiful old original Swahili house is just a walking distance from the harbor and a stone throw from Forodhani Garden and the House of Wonders. The small and simple B&B is an integral part of the neighborhood – meet our friendly neighbors and feel at home in the middle of this buzzing town rich in culture and full of stories. Peaceful, authentic, comfortable and furnished simple but with style, this place has it all if you are out for the true experience. Built in Arabic style – with one interior portico, thick walls and plenty of natural ventilation – sitting at the roof top seating area where we also serve breakfast makes it easy for you to dream up your own story of ancient times. Kiponda B&B is one of those special little hotels you‘ll want to return to again and again, and that’s what many of our guests do. We offer simple quality accommodation and services without fake luxury – a true Zanzibar experience.

In the middle of bustling Stone Town, Zenji Hotel welcomes guests for a relaxing stay on the rooftop or in one of the 9 authentic rooms. The rooms have a ceiling fan and air conditioning, some rooms have balcony. All rooms have a different atmosphere referring to the rich Zanzibar heritage and culture. The breakfast, including homemade bread and jams, fruit juice, fresh fruit, different types of tea and real espresso coffee, is served on the rooftop from which you have a beautiful view over Stone Town and the harbor.
Fair hotel at the side of the downtown, but the city center is just 10 minutes by walk. Room is OK, quite clean and spacious. Breakfast is really good with toast, many fruits and juice. Staff is kind and helpful. Definitely worth the price. WiFi works well. We asked a room with balcony, but didn't get. Otherwise the roof terrace is just steps from the room.

The building has a long history rich in traditional facts of Zanzibar. Now the building has been renovated and turned into a beautiful and unique hotel in Stone Town and closet to all historical sites of Zanzibar.
Nothing to complain about. Great service, nice staff and good cleaning. Facilitys are okay and nothing more than you pay for. Good place for a couple of nights. Too much noise from the street but thats just how it is around here. Good central location.

I am extremely disappointed about this place. Bugs are everywhere, the rooms are incredibly dirty, the personal is very discriminating and bad. I booked a room for 3 adults and I wanted to bring my friend from Zanzibar to stay with me. I know him for more than one year. Previously we stayed at another hotel but we had to change because there were out of availability. When he came he was discriminated and not allowed because he was an “outsider guest” I am disgusted by everything: rooms, personal, cleaning quality, everything. If I could I would take my money and my bags out and leave immediately. I don’t recommend this place to anyone.

Rumaisa is a comfortable 3-star hotel with 10 double rooms. All of them are beautifully furnished, each in different colors, all in typical Zanzibar style with the comfort that modern life demands - AC, ceiling fan, current hot and cold water, a mini-bar, TV, internet access, en-suite bathroom and toilet. All rooms have at least one balcony, some even two, and are equipped with a built-in solar emergency light
The Rumaisa has a helpful staff, who all speak great English. The kitchen staff was also kind—we brought our own fruit in and they cut it up for us. It’s right by the old city, which is beautiful (the doors!). If you haven’t been to the Middle East this is a good substitute for an old Arab market town. Plus, the birding on Zanzibar is wonderful.

I booked my stay in Stone Town for 1 night as I had a late flight. It was really cheap and really easy. The rooms were clean and the staff (Abdullah) was very helpful in booking airport transfers for me and my friend. What can sometimes be a stressful time was made easy and quick because the staff booked reliable taxis and they also had grear knowledge of the area. I was a little worried when the check-in time was for 14:00 because we arrived at 12-noon. However, the staff got a room ready for us very quickly and we manage to be able to put away our luggage in a locked room giving us few worries. For the price this place is a steal!!

Chukwani Executive Inn offers affordable, clean and down-to-earth accommodation for people on the go. We booked this guest house for our first night as well as our last night in Zanzibar as it is conveniently located close to the airport and we were arriving/ departing in the early hours of the morning.
