The Hopetoun Arms Hotel, originally constructed in the mid-19th century as a hunting lodge for the Hopetoun Estate, now forms the heart of the Scottish village of Leadhills in Lanarkshire and is the highest residential hotel in the United Kingdom. Set in the open countryside of the Lowther Hills in the Southern Uplands ‘twixt’ the rivers Nith and Clyde, the hotel is within one hour drive from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Carlisle, and just fifteen minutes from the towns of Sanquhar and Abington. Our family run private hotel and village inn offers eleven letting bedrooms, clean comfortable accommodation, good hospitality and excellent home cooked food, including a selection of mouth watering vegetarian dishes. We hold a full hotel license, so after your day out walking, cycling, golfing or just taking in the surrounding area, you can relax in comfort and enjoy a ‘wee dram’ in our fireside lounge, or if you prefer you can catch up with the friendly village locals in our cosy village bar. Whether your stay with us is on business or pleasure, you can be sure that after your stay with us is concluded, you’ll feel relaxed, invigorated and keen to return.
Stayed overnight to break a journey from the north west of Scotland. A short drive off the M74. Good staff, comfortable room and food was fine. Breakfast also good. Would stay again and maybe longer next time

Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner with a delicious new menu full of fresh, local produce – not forgetting the classic dishes everyone knows and loves. Our restaurant space has expanded, we now have a beautiful conservatory area – a spacious dining area with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. We also have the fabulous Harry’s Bar at Angels, a home from home off the busy main street where you can relax and unwind. Innovative cocktails, premium wine, spirits and exquisite malts – there is nowhere else in Uddingston you would want to spend your time. And with 7 completely refurbished boutique bedrooms. Angels Hotel in Uddingston has firmly established itself as the number one venue in Lanarkshire.
We booked for a saturday night, which in hindsight was probably not the best night to go . We were all over 70 years of age so it was a very busy and loud evening and there was also a big football match being televised. However the meal was good and the staff friendly but also pretty rushed off their feet. I would like to point out that although there is an outdoor lift for wheelchairs and zimmers, it is not a pleasant experience to have to go through a very busy bar area and another lounge are to arrive at the restuarant. Ideally a lift to avoid this would be advisable. Able bodied people have no difficulty in accesss to all areas. We all enjoyed the meal but due to the problem ive mentioned, i do not see us returning unless there is an improvement in the access for disabled patrons

South Craighall is a farmhouse built in 1750 and recently refurbished. We have two lovely bedrooms, a double and a twin with their own private bathroom. We are close to East Kilbride and are only 7 miles from Glasgow's City Centre
This was probably the most welcoming B&B I've ever stayed in. There were four of us so we used both the rooms. Laura welcomed us on a Saturday evening and was very helpful with suggestions for somewhere to eat in the area. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom was lovely. The cooked breakfast was delicious and Laura was a good host. Would highly recommend.

The Old Schoolhouse Hotel has been established since 2010 - providing top quality accommodation at exceptionally good value. It has been in the family from the beginning and is now run by Richard and Jane. Having travelled extensively in UK and Europe through our business and personal lives, we know what we looked for in a good place to stay, whether it was for one night or longer. We strive to ensure that our guests' stay in the "Old Schoolhouse Hotel" provides a more personal feeling of care than can be achieved in a "chain hotel" but maintaining budget friendly pricing
Excellent stay. Warm greeting by owners, very nice and clean room. Comfortable and warm. Brilliant stop off point from long journeys on the motorway. Eat in restaurant at night it was first class. Bargain would recommend to all

We’ve moved into the area and were really happy to try the restaurant as it’s a few minutes walk. The decor was lovely, the staff all very friendly and atmosphere was good. We ordered the cod and waited about an hour for it, which didn’t bother us as we were chatting. The meal arrived and we were so disappointed. To charge customers £15 for a very thin end piece of cod that I could only cut into 3 small bits to eat is shocking! It honestly took my partner and I a couple of minutes to finish the cod and scoop of potato. I said to the waitress who was lovely about it and she asked the chef who said that’s just what you get but if I paid £3 less I’d have got a massive slice of haddock and chips with sides - it doesn’t make sense. It’s such a shame because the food we had was delicious but it was like a starter I genuinely thought there had been a mix up. We didn’t order anything else and left as we felt really ripped off.

A wonderful place to stay for a quiet time even though it was only for one night. If you like horses you will enjoy the surroundings and the staff are very polite and helpful. Our room was cleaned and tidy and all rooms are named after race courses. Breakfast was plentiful and a wonderful selection. We took a walk and enjoyed the work going on with horse riders.
