On the idyllic and less-visited north shore of Lake Atitlan, Santa Cruz is an indigenous Kaqchikel village with around two thousand local inhabitants. This quiet village has long been a favorite destination for those in the know who want to get away from it all, and La Iguana Perdida is proud to have been active in the community here since we opened the doors in 1996. We’ve been an “eco-hotel” since before the term became popular, converted to solar in the last few years, and we’ve always been active in the environmental movement on Atitlan. The choice of lodging at the Iguana runs the gamut, from the original wood construction consisting of spacious dormitories, private rooms with shared bath and a rustic cabana, to the more modern side of the hotel where our luxury rooms include private bath, balcony and lake views. Shared bathroom facilities are scattered around the spacious property tucked behind the bouganvillas and banana trees. Our restaurant serves delicious breakfasts and lunches from 8am until 3pm daily and family-style feasts every night at 7pm often followed by activities like open-mic and trivia. All meals are prepared by the lovely local Mayan staff, and vegetarian, gluten free and other dietary restrictions are always available upon request. The climate (warm in the sun and cool in the shade) is perfect for whatever level of activity you’re seeking, even if it’s lounging in a hammock with a good book all day. Located right on the waterfront, La Iguana Perdida is one of the best places to enjoy the beauty and serenity that Lake Atitlan has to offer. Start the day with a yoga class on the patio overlooking the lake with the volcanos framed in the distance, then go for a kayak or follow shaded trails and paths along the shoreline for a dip in the magical waters of Atitlan. After a day of hiking or kayaking, fire up our traditional Mayan sauna or treat yourself to a massage with one of our experienced practitioners. There’s no reason to be bored even on a rainy day with our pool table, dartboard, book exchange and TV room at your disposal, and if you’d like to immerse yourself more in the local community we can organise backstrap weaving classes in a local home or one-on-one Spanish classes. We even have wifi now! If water sports is your bag, we are home to ATI Divers, the only scuba operation on Lake Atitlan since 1996. Enjoy a fun dive or take the four-day PADI Open Water Course and become a certified diver. Atitlan is a collapsed volcanic caldera with massive volcanic rock formations, fish, crabs and even volcanic hot-spots you can plunge your hands into. One of the few spots in the world where you can get the high-altitude specialty certification without freezing! We’re open to travellers of all ages, and with over twenty years in business we hope we can find a way to make your visit to Lake Atilan a memorable one.
Pretty hostel in Santa Cruz Laguna, immersed in vegetation and with beautiful lake and volcano views! We spent 5 nights, and totally recommend the place. The staff and team of volunteers are simply great, all lovely and happy people who make your stay happy and help you with any logistics and questions you might have. The private room with bathroom is spacious, beautiful decor, clean and quiet. We loved the common areas, with hammocks, plenty of chairs to sunbathe and a pool table. The restaurant/cafe was also our favourite, as we had dinner with the other guests there every night at 7 pm (family dinner, a set menu that changes every evening and varies from pasta, pizza, tasty soups and BBQ on Saturdays). Really nice way to get to know other travellers, the staff and the owners, lovely people who like to talk and share their stories with everyone.

We are an eco hotel on the shores of lake Atitlan. A special hotel, with excellent view from every room, peaceful and with many activities inside the hotel and its surrounding; we are near a Mayan Tzutujil village called San Juan La Laguna, were you can learn about their interesting culture. We are specialized in bird watching and making different kind of tours (adventure, hiking, cultural, relaxing tours and more)
Great value for money hotel with nice staff and nice view of the lake. Approximately 10 minutes walk into the town of San Juan La Laguna. On-site restaurant with good breakfast. Room was big, yet basic. You can rent kayaks for free and start paddling directly from outside the hotel. Lovely kept grounds as well. Be prepared for steep steps though, as the hotel is built at the side of a mountain.

Hotel Sak'cari El Amanecer is an Eco-hotel located on the beautiful shores of Lake Atitlan. It has 20 lovely rooms overlooking the lake, the names sak'cari and amanecer mean sunrise in Tz'tujil and Spanish. The hotel is located in the heart of San Pedro La Laguna within walking distance to fine restaurants, bars and spanish schools.
One of our stops back packing in Guatemala, we stayed two nights. Nice clean and friendly staff. Close to center and lots of restaurants close by. Also fairly close to take the boat to Santiago. Very close to tour operators.

This was one of my favorite stays at the lake. Such a beautiful property with owner onsite management that was very friendly and helpful. The property is quiet, great internet as I had to work there a few days and take zoom calls. It was comfortable with plenty of amenities. A beautiful outdoor kitchen. My stay was in their accommodation that was apartment style. It had everything you need and felt like a home away from home. It certainly will not be my last time staying there! If you are considering it, just book it, you won't regret it!

Our 8 rooms are furnished and decorated with traditional Guatemalan styles.
One of us stayed for nearly a month. Together for 12 days. The two girls who worked there were awesome and work very hard every day. The location was excellent and the surroundings were good. Capricho the parrot is really a gift and a happy little guy. If you visit, be sure and take the time to talk to him. Our only recommendation is that someone should be more strict about enforcing quiet time. I am sure we will stay again if we are in the area.

Nuestro Sueno, a boutique hotel offering services and personal care rarely found on Lake Atitlan or anywhere in Central America. The Hotel features: Jacuzzi for 8, steam-room for 4, dry sauna for 4, guided tours, museum, crafts, and memorable dining. All rooms have working wood burning fireplaces and unsurpassed views of the lake, local community and our world famous group of volcanos. Each afternoon you can enjoy magnificent sunsets while listening to waves lapping the shore. Close your eyes, and transcend back to Mayan times... little has changed on Lake Atitlan, other than now… you are there. Come and be pampered.
Hotel Nuestro Sueño is more than just a hotel… it’s a warm embrace … welcoming you to Lake Atitlan! Richard , Sonia & their staff treated me like family. Richard weaved some fascinating stories about local history into my stay, & even suggested an itinerary for each day! Due to his kindness I got to experience a rich variety of Guatemalan jewels…. including but not limited to a butterfly reserve, a hike around a volcano & the best shrimp ceviche ever!!! He even organized drivers for me & arranged my mandatory “pre return to the USA” COVID test. Oh, & by the way… I visited a total of 7 villages around the lake & the views from San Antonio Palopó are undoubtedly the best!!! Muchissimas gracias, Don Ricardo! Thank you for the priceless memories… & happy holidays to you, Sonia & your staff! ❤️

My wife and I came to Anzan to our honeymoon. This is truly the best experience, host, staff and hotel for such an event. From the very personal service, of Dita, the host, their Staff (Dorka, John and Pascual), to a truly magnificent culinary experience and a general feeling of wonder, beauty, great taste and familiarity floods you from the front door til the heartbreaking moment of having to leave. Although the service is incredible they have a great way to make you feel very private, almost as if you were the only soul in this patch of paradise. The house is, in itself, a piece of art and the aesthetics of the rooms are curated with a great eye for beauty and calmness. The spatial feeling makes you feel as if you were on a spiritual retreat. There isn’t a window or a view you wouldn’t pass by without stoping to admire. From Pascual and Dorka you will always get a heartwarming smile and disposition to acommodatte you as if it were your own home. You can’t come to Anzan and not have a dinner made by John and Dita. Every dish is a really delicious experience hosted in a beautifully arranged garden, the sound of the lake an exquisite climate an some great wines handpicked by Dita. Dita has the best recomendations for local experiences, stores and activities. Activities really worth doing even when having to leave the hotel would be difficult for the before mentioned need to use every second in enjoying Anzan. You will want everyone to get to know this place but also to keep it to yourself as a personal treasure.

Stayed 2 nights in room nr 12. The room was quit spacious, pillows not too good, shower was fine, wifi working sometimes. We really liked having chairs and a hammock outside to sit and enjoy the view:) Staff friendly- only speaking Spanish. They were quick to answer texts about pick up (costs 100Q from Pana). Very clean rooms We would have liked if they had included breakfast or coffee, since there aren't not a lot to buy/cafees in the village. If you'r looking for peace and quiet this could be a good choice:)
