The 10 best Bed and Breakfast Inns in Snowdonia National Park, United Kingdom

April 24, 2023 Leonarda Pillsbury

Make sure to pack your wellies, because Snowdonia National Park is one of the wettest spots in the U.K. Besides being soggy, it’s also pretty impressive. A fairly easy hike takes you to the top of Yr Wyddfa, the highest peak in Wales (topping any peaks in England, too), where peregrine falcons nest in the jagged cliffs. The park also has the largest lake in Wales, Llyn Tegid. It has its own Loch Ness-style monster—called Teggie, of course—though some figure it’s just an unusually large pike. This Snowdonia’s wonders can also be found on a smaller scale. Keep an eye out for the Snowdon beetle, which has rainbow stripes down its back.

Dine here !

Met some friends here at lunchtime for drinks/meals/chats . The place is ‘old’ but has character and the tables are well apart in the spacious rooms. Lovely food (I had gammon and triple cooked chips) . The service was very good and we will definitely visit again if we go on holiday again in that area. Park at the ‘Marian’ car park close-by (£3.30 for 3 hours).

I had a return visit to this b&b and can confirm nothing has changed …. It’s still a smashing place to stay in the village of betws-y-coed. Ben and Sarah are great hosts and will do anything to make your stay a good one. The breakfast is from 8-9am which allows for a sleep in for me anyway. The cooked English breakfast is really nice using fresh local ingredients, but if you want cereal, yoghurt, toast and fruit that is on offer too ! The b&b is well appointed and I thought it represented outstanding value, again I really enjoyed my stay.

Overpriced

Reviewed By kelly h

We arrived and was shown to our room. Unfortunately it had not been cleaned. The bathroom was filthy, had hairs all in the shower and the toilet seat was dirty and the bathroom floor. The duvet cover was hanging out the bottom and all crumpled up inside so didn't lie flat on the bed. The room itself was dusty also. The shower was warmish, however zero pressure so i was unable to wash my hair as it was not powerful enough, it just trickled out. However the staff were great and friendly. They apologized about the room and came up to clean it. Breakfast was lovely also and a good location. I just think for the price we paid per night i would of expected a much higher quality room and bathroom. Very overpriced. I would not stay again for that price :(

Felt like sleeping in a cross between a smelly cave and a care home.

Reviewed By Lymingtonfood

Came to stay for two nights with a mate before climbing snowdon. We first noticed how the building isn’t kept well, a lot of clutter and smells going on. We went to the bar to get our keys, and were shown to our room. The hotel really didn’t smell great, a really musky care home comes to mind and the room was really dusty and it was clear it was cleaned in a hurry. The food was OK. Beer was good. But then every evening we dreaded going back to the room. Wouldn’t stay here again. Also there are some reeeaaaaallllly creepy pictures of dolls on the walls. Pics of dolls and the thick Peter of dust and cobwebs on the headboard.

30th Birthday, PERFECT WEEKEND!

Reviewed By jeffS9574KP

Staying at The Courthouse with my girlfriend for my 30th birthday was one of the best weekends of my life. Situated in Snowdonia with breath taking views, The Courthouse achieves a perfect balance of maintaining the historic themes of the building, whilst offering modern day technology amenities (Smart TV, touch screen lamps and even a touch screen mirror!) that will leave any visitor feeling comfort to the highest degree. Pair this with one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in, you'll find yourself looking forward to returning after a long trek to the summit of Snowdon. Perhaps the location and building itself would earn a 5* rating, however the true charm and what makes The Courthouse so memorable, was the first class service provided by Richard and Tanya. You may, as I have in the past, experienced staying in a B&B where the host can be somewhat intrusive in trying to make you feel comfortable, or opposingly totally negligent to the point where you feel unwelcomed. Richard really sets the standard for how to host a B&B and has mastered this to a fine art; friendly, polite, attentive, considerate and a genuine desire to make your stay one that you will remember for years... but let's not give him all the credit, are we forgetting the superwoman behind the scenes here? Upon arrival, Tanya had dressed our room in Happy Birthday banners with a bottle of prosecco on the side. I'm not one for big celebrations, but I must admit... I LOVED IT! Not only that, the following morning we came down to breakfast in the shared lounge to find further celebration banners for my birthday (see picture) and finally upon returning after climbing Snowdon, there was even a birthday card left for me from Richard and Tanya. The thoughtfulness and extra mile both Richard and Tanya go to is exactly why I wouldn't bother even considering anywhere else within the area, you simply won't find hosts who care to this degree. Finally... the breakfast was incredible! Thank you so much Richard and Tanya, that weekend will stay with me for years.

Best B&B

Reviewed By ericak28

After travelling Europe for nearly the last 8 months, this is the best place I’ve stayed. It’s a family run B&B, and they’re all so friendly and helpful. The room was clean, and the beds were comfy. Breakfast was amazing and they were incredibly accommodating. My friend and I had to head out before the specified breakfast time and they were sure to make us each a breakfast sandwich before we left, and were also able to accommodate my friend who is a vegetarian. It is also located in the heart of Dolgellau, so all the restaurants, pubs, bakeries and stores are just around the corner, but we were also able to start and end our hike right at the doorstep, so location was perfect! I highly recommend this place, and if/when I return to Dolgellau, I will definitely be staying here again! (they also had two incredibly friendly cats living there, which was a bonus)
