Long the home of Portugal’s monarchs, Sintra is a magnificent town of marvelous historic mansions, all set against the backdrop of lush hills. Sintra’s many castles include the Palácio Nacional de Sintra (a main abode of Portuguese royalty until the early 20th century), the hilltop and storybook Palácio da Pena, Quinta de Regaleira (incorporating several architectural styles and with gorgeous surrounding gardens), the Castelo dos Mouros (Moorish Castle), and the Palácio de Monserrate.

Chalet Saudade - Vintage Guest House

In 2001 we drove by a quaint, beautiful, old rose colored chalet in Sintra with a > sign hanging on a white door. Having searched for months for a home in Sintra, the locale of Luis' dream place to live, we thought - why not look at this charming "fixer upper"? It was nearly sundown when we entered the beautiful rooms with painted high ceilings and as the light flowed through the winter veranda overlooking the lush green gardens it was love at first sight. A dozen years later and having lived through rainy humid winters with old cracked windows and creaky floors, our home is completely restored and refurbished. It has taken four long years but the outcome is better than expected as we have stayed true to the style and essence of this peculiar type of architecture. The chalet style was imported at the end of the XIX century from the Alps and was used to build vacation homes throughout Portugal. Now our home and guesthouse is enjoying its second life and we hope to continue our mission that we have developed at our cafe - Cafe Saudade. This cafe is a few meters from the chalet and it is here where breakfast is served all day to our guests. Our mission is to provide, with the utmost quality, an authentic Portuguese experience to all of our visitors to Sintra. We hope this is what you experience when you stay with us. Cheers, and long life to the old-new Chalet Saudade!

An old villa converted into a quaint hotel. Clean and attractive however, being an old house on the hill our room was in -2 floor with no elevator and we can hear the water flushing and running in the pipes. It is affiliated with a Saudades breakfast restaurant that is to die for… out of this world delicious breakfast and amazing service.

We spent 2 nights at Sintra 1012 Boutique Guest House. It was perfect! Great location, beautiful clean room- we got the one with the terrace! Karen was wonderful!! I wish we did not stay in Lisbon first and stayed here longer and just day tripped into Lisbon. Sintra gets crazy crowded during the day. The best time to enjoy the town is early morning or late afternoon.

Stayed for 3 nights last week. Really enjoyed our stay. Loved the pool, gardens and tranquility yet so close to all the Sintra palaces. Very clean and modern style mixed within traditional setting. Very nice. One tip, kettle in bedroom but no tea or coffee making facilities.. maybe this could be improved for the future. Thanks to Andre, family and staff.. all very willing and helpful. Would like to return one day.

My wife and I joined Vitorino for a long weekend to enjoy the seafood and sights around Sintra. We were greeted personally by Vitorino, who is a charming and gracious host. The property has a regal history and has been lovingly restored by Vitorino to its past glory. Every detail was exquisite; the (Estoril) corner room was open and airy, the bathroom was immaculate, and the breakfast with Nana was excellent. Thank you Vitorino for a wonderful stay. We will visit you again soon from Évora!

I came to the Quinta for a yoga retreat. It s the perfect place for any wellness, meditation, health oriented retreat organisation. The Quinta is family owned, a beautiful historical mansion nestled in an lush garden and park, just minutes away from Sintra s historical center and monuments, and natural parks. It s a trip back in time, all the rooms are different and as if you were visiting your dream grand parents… antiques, silver, family portraits, grand dining room… The pool is big enough to swim laps and the space dedicated to our yoga practice had a wonderful view on the garden and the ocean, in the distance. It’s completely calm and serene. I loved my stay there. I believe there is only breakfast service, but Sintra nearby and the beaches 15 minutes drive are full Of bars and restaurants… They welcome external chefs to cater for retreats and events… I ll be back soon!!!

Too small windows

Reviewed By ekaterinas211

We choose this hotel as it was one the most affordable and it was quite close to the center of Sintra. The building is old. When we entered the room we were a bit shocked with a size of our windows- they were like in the prison and the room was very small as well. Also the rooms were close to the chimney and we could feel the smell of smoke. The breakfast we had to eat inside the room because of covid rules, but I would say it was nice. In general I can say it is not the best choice I made. Make sure when checking in, ask for a room on the first or second floors. Not on the third with small windows.

Lovely Property

We stayed for 3 nights in the Rustic room. We found the room to be spacious and comfortable. It is a standalone room and was very quiet. Check in was nice as we were taken to the room to see it and then payment was made. We were given suggestions for restaurants in the area, which was helpful. We had a vehicle, made use of the free parking on the property. The breakfast was quite good, and had my first introduction to pastel de nata, creamy egg tarts. We relaxed one afternoon at the pool, was too cool to use it, but enjoyed the loungers in the pool area, a quiet oasis after time touring the area.

Aguamel Sintra

A House with Stories Aguamel, Sintra There are still places like this... Aguamel is a family-run Boutique Guest House set in a beautiful building dated 1885 that preserves all the charm of an ancient family home. Privacy and Home Feeling are the feelings that better define Aguamel! Located in the heart of Sintra's historical center, one of the oldest Portuguese towns listed in the Unesco World Heritage sites, this house features architectural standards of secular houses, such as the high wall with the typical courtship window and large gate, patio and roof garrets overlooking Sintra mountain range and the belfries. The bedrooms offer a visual experience and promote the spirit of true voyages. The House has 5 bedrooms, all different. Each has its own personality and unique decoration, but the good taste is constant and modernity and design combine in local antique details. The name of each room refers to the flowers chosen by bees to produce honey and honey water: Orange Blossom Flower, Heather Flower, Rosemary, Jasmine and Wildflower. A house made of contrasts. Merging vintage and contemporary styles the furniture of the house reflects good taste, amenity and comfort in an intimate way. Some of the pieces were tailor-made others suffered a deep, careful recovery. This is the perfect place for unforgettable days...
