Vibrant and packed with Victorian mansions, Costa Rica's rowdy, bustling capital was built on the profits of the coffee trade and working "golden bean" plantations still surround the city. Try freshly roasted local beans at Mercado Central. For shinier gold, visit the Museo del Oro. Many renovated landmarks now house stylish hotels. Usually viewed as a hub, rather than a destination, nightlife is concentrated in Spanish village-inspired El Pueblo. Don't miss the elegant 1897 National Theater.

Historic house built by one of San Jose's most prominent families in 1938 is now a B&B. Let this beautiful old house be your home away from home in San Jose. Located just four blocks east of the National Museum, Barrio California, just 10 minutes walking distance to the center of town. Enjoy our rooftop view deck and garden. You can walk to all museums and places of interest like National Theater, Jade Museum, Plaza de la Cultura, Simon Bolivar Zoo as well as many very good restaurants, bars of all kinds and casinos in minutes, city center and PreColumbian Gold Museum. Shopping, San Pedro mall, central market, and the Artisan Market are within a comfortable walking distance. We also have a rooftop patio where you can enjoy the sun, a coffee or drink with friends, while you look out at the sights and mountains around San Jose
The best hotel in San Jose. The indoor garden and koi pond are a delight to sit by during their incredible complimentary breakfast of poached eggs, fruit, fresh made toast, and jam. Other items also available they will cook up for you individually for a small fee. The darling dog Violetta calmly keeps watch over the lobby and is delighted to take pets from passerbys (but is even more delighted when you bring home your leftovers). See that? I just used the word home, because it felt like home. We were stranded for 5 extra days in San Jose after the DHL plane crashed in the one tarmac available at the airport. The owner of Casa 69 took great care of us as we sorted out what we wanted to do, allowing us early check in, and easing our anxieties. He is a brilliant and delightful man, who is well traveled and probably speaks more languages than I can count, I am just guessing! Haha. The rooms were impeccable spotless and fresh, with king sized beds, large mirrors, and excellent bathrooms. The staff were so attentive and kind. There is even a great rooftop to hang out on, and little balconies outside the rooms along the way up. I would probably not only enjoy staying here but working here as well. Thank you for saving us Casa 69! We appreciate you so much and would come back in a heartbeat.

Costa Rica Guesthouse is a colonial house built in 1905 and extended in the 1960’s. It has been lovingly restored and has 25 rooms with either private or shared bath. There is free WIFI throughout the building and we offer free coffee and tea all day in our lounge area with tropical patio. We are located near the shops of avenida central, the national museum, and the lively Barrio Escalante with its wide choice of restaurants and bars.
My main issue with the place is bad sleep quality. The mattress is worn-out, sagging, and you feel the springs. The Internet is of a very poor quality - you can barely make a WhatsApp audio call, forget about video chat. The good things - very clean, quiet area and close to the center.

"A small-paradise." is what we often hear from our guests’. Casa Lima is a small exclusive bed and breakfast nestled in one of Costa Rica's unique and privileged neighborhood, Rohrmoser. Located only 15 minutes from San Jose city centre and the airport, Casa Lima offers the perfect strategic location for visiting the Central Valley and exploring Costa Rica. Only a short drive away from all the amenities of San Jose and Escazu, yet located in a tranquil and relaxed tropical setting. Casa Lima is only two blocks away from the American Embassy in Costa Rica.
I was very surprised to find such a quiet peaceful garden guest house in San Jose great for a layover especially with the family and if you're trying to avoid the hustle and bustle of the busy San Jose area the rooms are very basic not very clean as the bathrooms are moldy and some of the rooms does not have a proper window the complimentary breakfast is very basic juice coffee and bread but if you are on a budget I guess it's okay for a quick stay over

Decent bar area but only allowing 50% capacity right now. During the day it’s pretty slow and boring and the same girls usually each day. At night around 4/5pm it gets busier and sometimes there is a line for females outside so it’s nice to stand and chat , even some willing to deal so they don’t have to stand there anymore!! Decent prices too! Didn’t try the food

Hotel Novo is in a great location, very convent for shops and bus stops. The room was big and had good air conditioning and strong WIFI. The staff were very helpful and offered a good traditional breakfast. We found the accommodation difficult to find so would recommend using 'Maps.Me'. Overall a pleasant stay.

The Luz de Luna Boutique Hotel is located in one of the best areas of San José, on 33rd street "Paseo Gastronómico La Luz", from here you can walk to bars and restaurants with an exquisite array of gastronomy and international cuisines: Turkish, Lebanese, Spanish, Indian, Thai, vegan, vegetarian, and haute cuisine, among others. You can also walk to extraordinary museums, tourist attractions and the city center. Our facility has ten rooms, all with private bathrooms, and breakfast included. Breakfast is served from 8:00 to 10:00 am in the restaurant and terrace area. We also have a space for indoor parking and a common area in the back to read, work or have a drink served by us or order in. The property has free high-speed wireless internet service throughout.
The neighborhood is quiet and safe, with many good restaurants. The breakfast was okay. And this is all what I can say positive about the place. Mold and dirt everywhere, even on the bed linen (see the picture of the pillow that I was given), toilet flush not working, dirty walls and disgusting smell in the room -- this is what you should expect in this so called hotel. There is one tiny window in the room, covered with a dirty rag, behind which you will find someone's smelly clothes hanging out, and a blank wall -- no air, no daylight, no sky. From this window, a cat would jump on your head at night when you are sleeping, and when you ask the personnel to do something about it, they would say -- sorry, this is the hotel's cat! But what is worst is the way they treat guests that they don't see as important: in the morning, when I was out for a walk, they just entered my room and put all my stuff in the trash bag and took it out as if it were just a rubbish! Without telling me before hand that they didn't have a room for me for the second night! I came back at about 4pm to find my things in the lobby in a trash bag and to learn that I have no place to stay! Perhaps the hotel was nice few years back, but now it's not even worth to be called a hotel. It's a pity that I didn't take pictures of these dirty walls in the first day and I didn't get a chance to do it on a second day. The management should learn the hospitality principals: the owner didn't even show up to explain anything or listen to my complains, and it was all left to the poor reception guy who had to say all apologies and so. This was the worst experience that I've ever had for my 30 years of travelling in 30+ countries.

Hotel is walking distance to many resturants and shops in downtown San Jose. Very clean and quiet. There is a large terrace on the second floor that is available for the guests to sit outside. Wifi was excellent.

We are located 15 minutes from downtown San Jose on the hills heading to the Caribbean. The whole property is surrounded by lush gardens our rooms are modern and large all of them have high speed internet and a computer in the room with a nice flat screen to use our movie or music archive our beds are king size orthopedic, we offer hot water safe box and always free helpful advice on Costa Rica.
The room was much more than I expected, and the service was even better. I was amazed the next morning to see how beautiful the property was. I can't say enough about the owners and I do plan on visiting them again.
