Brazil's former capital is renowned for its African-influenced cuisine, music and architecture. Known as "the Capital of Joy," because of its exuberant week-long Carnaval celebrations, Salvador brims with contemporary music and art amid architecture that has gone untouched since the 17th century.

A family run pousada with eleven rooms all with ensuite bathrooms, air conditioning, cable tv, fridge, telephone and queen sized bed. There is a swimming pool. There is wifi access from the main varanda and pool area. We are situated in a quiet neighbourhood, 50 meters from the beach of Itapoan, made famous by the song "Tarde em Itapoan" by Vinicius de Moraes. We are walking distance of four restaurants. We are ten minutes by car from the airport and 30 minutes by car from the Historical Center. We are 40 minutes by car from the turle reserve at Praia do Forte.
My wife, family and friends have always stayed here a few days on our way to and from Chapada Diamantina, where we found a second home far from our Land of the Midnight Sun. Encanto de Itapoan is a unique pousada in many respects and ideally situated close to beach, a short drive to the airport/bus terminal and of course is near Salvador. Janet and Octacilio are gracious hosts who readily provide whatever service or help is needed to ensure a fantastic stay in Itapoa. We are already looking forward to our next meeting in Itapoa in a little over a year from now.

I was in room 8 (first floor - there is no ground floor) and despite being very tidy, the room smells like mold. The room was painted and clean, but the smell was enough to trigger my allergies. There was a problem with the A/C, which was rapidly solved. The staff was very attentive. They even tried to get me another room, but all the other rooms on that floor had the same smell. On the upper floor, on apartment I visited did not have that smell, on the contrary. There was a pleasantly clean smell. It's location is good, near Elevador Lacerda. Because it is an old building, it is not adapted, so I do not recommend it to elderly people and to people with disabilities. In order to get to the reception, one has to go up two flights of stairs. Breakfast does not offer a lot of options, however it is pretty good. Fresh cakes, bread, cold and hot food, besides coffee, milk and juice are served. The view from the room is breathtaking. Despite the smell of mold, I recommend this hotel (if you don't have allergies). The staff is great, the building is beautiful and the location is good.

The Lighthouse Itapua Beach Hotel is located in one of the most beautiful beaches of Bahia, Itapua. Surrounded by gardens, and in the view of the lighthouse. Its modern architecture, and the clear water ocean as a backdrop complements the rustic and sophisticated atmosphere. It is located 2 minutes (90 m) from Itapua Beach, 10 minutes (9 miles) from Salvador International Airport.
The hotel is more like Pusada in terms of size and family size, We stayed in room 16 (30 sqm), a huge bathroom, an excellent shower with hot water, and a spacious living room, facing the garden and from the distance you can see the sea. There are only two floors but too many levels and too many stairs . The staff is nice.. There are several restaurants around ,supermarket. Beach across the road. br 460 for 3 nights for a double Superior room

Rooms were small but nicely furnished. Spotlessly kept and we found them to be quiet. Breakfast as mentioned elsewhere was terrific, but the best was the very helpful personnel who ran it, all happy to help in any way. Thanks so much!

Situated in Barra, one of the best areas of Salvador, where you can find some of the nicest beaches of the city. Just a 3-minute walk to the first beach, 5 minutes to the "harbour of Barra" and located in a quiet and safe neighborhood. A tropical garden with exotic flowers and plants and a variety of song birds give you the impression of staying in a green oasis in the heart of Salvador.
Our first visit to Salvador where we stayed a week in Papaya Verde. We had the best time. The hotel is in a quiet street and close to some excellent beaches, restaurants and bars. All great places to hang out during day or evenings. The Pousada has a beautiful garden and terras where you can chill in one of the hammocks. A very relaxing atmosphere and super friendly staff, they gave us some good advice on how to enjoy the best of Salvador. Our room had a small balcony, very comfortable beds and airco. It was perfect for our stay and very good value for money. Breakfast included i.a. (good) coffee, fresh fruits, juices, cakes, eggs and more. Thanks again guys for making our stay memorable. We hope to visit again one day soon!

So my friend and I turned up at the main hotel (which I had booked 2 weeks previous) at around midnight and showed our email confirmation only to be gestured to go up the road to another hotel. It looked proper dodgy up this dark road so my friend and I were rather dubious to say the least but luckily there was another guest who was able to translate it was the sister hotel and that it was perfectly safe. We made our 5 minute walk up the road, were greeted at the new hotel and shown our "room". The room seemed OK. A bit dirty and very basic but we thought "Sod it. We're only here for 2 nights". We then wanted to go out but the door didn't lock so had to tell the staff downstairs so someone came up to take a look. After about 10 minutes he said we should move into the room next door which was even worse than the first room and I'm pretty sure someone had been sleeping in not long before we arrived. So after moving all our stuff over and making the beds in the second rooms they managed to fix the lock on the first room and said we should move back in. Not before they released how skanky it was and actually sweeping up and giving it a clean. The next day my friend used the toilet in the morning and it turned out the toilet didn't flush so within 10 minute the entire room stunk of you know what. Again we were moved into a separate rooms which again was dirty and just not very nice. I would have given this place 1 star but the staff were really friendly and really tried to make the best of it and the breakfast wasn't too bad either. Eggs, cold meats, cheese, breads, fruits and that type of thing. The guys here don't speak a word of English so if you don't speak Portuguese then bring a phrase book or use google translate (which is what we did) otherwise you could get really stuck
