My car window had been smashed in Heywood and I had a black plastic bag to cover the window. Obviously I could not see through this. Th extremely kind woman on reception brought 2 transparent bags and transparent tape to me so that I had a view through the window and suggested I park in the disabled space so that security cameras would cover it overnight. She couldn't have done more.

4* rating accommodation with silver star breakfast award. Our rooms have been lovingly restored to a standard never seen at the Rake over its 400 years. They are finished mixing the existing character of the Rake with cutting edge modern styling. All are en-suite with either shower or bath. Each room has flatscreen TV with freeview. Internet access available. Popular tapas restaurant on site. Lovely garden/patio area for residents. Set in semi-rural setting with easy motorway access.
Having worked in catering I’m always prepared to give eateries the benefit of the doubt. We visited The Rake (our favourite tapas place) tonight at 5pm. After a slow drinks order we eventually had our menu taken. Front of house staff were pleasant enough. We ordered 8 dishes. The first was bread and butter. We waited an hour. Despite this a couple we knew walked in 20 mins after us (a family), and were served promptly and left just as we were getting our bread and butter. The main dishes then followed but they were way below standard. The king prawns were incinerated an orange colour and served with plain mayonnaise (it’s not the 80s) and calamari again the the same. The rib beef in bourbon sauce, our favourite was sparse though slightly better than the seafood. Yes, The Rake were catering for a wedding, but there’s no excuse serving another table well in advance of a family and then serving poor quality food. We told them we were disappointed but there was no discount on the bill or an apology. This place needs to pay a visit to Engine at Sowerby Bridge because that’s where their customers will be heading!

Fernhill is a unique bed and breakfast nestled amongst some of the most tranquil surroundings in the North West. It is situated in a small hamlet accessed by a private lane and surrounded by serene, breath-taking views. We have a large private car park so parking is never a problem. Double rooms at only £50 (£25pp) Fernhill is just a few minutes walk from the Mary Townley Loop on the new pennine bridleway at Rooley Moor, making it an ideal stop-off for horse riders and cyclists.
I booked a one night stay for a friend's Wedding, unsure of the location I booked our stay based on the excellent reviews at The Fernhill B&B, I was not disappointed, lovely location, pleasant room, great views. Very clean and and modern bathroom. I was so very impressed with the choice and quality of the continental breakfast. Thank you Fernhill, we enjoyed our stay and would absolutely recommend you. X

Welcome to Moss Lodge Hotel. Preferred by both business executives & leisure guests and only minutes from the M60 & M62 motorways and the centre of Rochdale. Built in 1841, this former mill owner’s residence stands majestically in its own landscaped grounds, providing an intimate country house atmosphere that is relaxed yet sophisticated; offering our overnight, conference and wedding guests, quiet luxury and individuality.
I recently spent a week at the Moss Lodge. I am an American novelist and went to Rochdale to do research for a new book. I chose the Lodge as it looked like a proper English Manor House, which it is, and I wanted that atmosphere. I was greeted at the door by Samantha with an offer of tea in the cozy parlor while my suitcases were whisked up to a beautiful luxurious room, outfitted with all the comforts of home. When I asked for "streaky-bacon" for my breakfasts, it was there the each morning along with a lovely fruit bowl, brown toast, and a veggie sausage. I only had to ask once. Paula on the weekends cared for me like an older sister, Olga was a gem, and everyone there made me feel like I was in my home away from home. In some ways, it was like coming back home to discover my family's home. It's touted as a business hotel, and its convenience to the city, public transport, and dining I could see why. I had breakfast each morning, and a wonderful dinner...all reasonably priced. I hope to one day return, and of course, if I do, this will be my home.

Recently stayed here for a couple of nights. Firstly the positives....location was excellent for our requirements. The host was friendly and accommodating (getting a drink I requested). Free parking and WiFi also included. The negatives.... Receiving a message 10 days prior advising there would be no breakfast due to COVID? I asked if there would be a reduction in room rate to be told no, as booking.com take 13% off them and I could cancel if I wished. That is hardly the customers problem is it? Despite trying, there was nowhere else in the area that had availability for our dates and as we were attending a wedding we had no choice but to continue with the booking. Paying for a service that you aren't getting is wrong and the owner should know this. Even a tray with continental breakfast outside the bedroom door would have been sufficient. I'm sorry, but using COVID is an excuse when all pubs and restaurants are now open with no restrictions....we ate breakfast around the corner in a local establishment. The bedroom was very dated and really needs re- decorating. There was a light out in the bathroom and wallpaper peeling off the walls in the bathroom. An average stay I'm afraid and I'm sorry but I wouldn't recommend.

Situated in the heart of a small village near Rochdale. The Sportsman is owned by Jane and Ste, who have owned pubs and bed and breakfast for many years. We have 3 family rooms and 1 twin/double room and provide a full English breakfast. Car parking available. We also cater for long term contracts.
Just returned from my weekend stay at the sportsman and this is the second time I have stayed here. I really like staying here, staff are super friendly and make you feel so welcome and nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are mega clean, bed is really comfortable and the rooms are spacious. I get that it is not for everyone, as I would not say this is for someone wanting a quiet night away (but it is above a pub lol !!!) This is great value for money and breakfast is available and was lovely. Its a great place to stay if you are wanting a night out, the locals are mega friendly and make you feel really welcome ! It is perfectly situated with plenty of pubs around, takeaways and small shops. There is ample parking in the free car park opposite or if you are lucky, you can park on the main road (if there is space ?!)

The good points: in nice place, staff are friendly and welcoming (when around) and has parking (if you can get in) and the restaurant looked nice but couldn’t use it. Bad points: first off, this place is labelled as dog friendly however it’s only dog friendly to certain extent. The rooms are dog friendly but the restaurant isn’t. However you have to walk through the restaurant to get to the outside garden area and also to go up to the room unless you come in the back past the kitchen where the floor is really greasy. Just felt really awkward trying to get through a full restaurant with dogs knowing it wasn’t dog friendly but there wasn’t any other way really. So was a shame we couldn’t eat there as had to find somewhere else that allowed dogs after we been travelling for a few hours to get there. We had garden view apartment (which was more of a view of car park and part of beer garden area) while it was a nice size it was really really dirty. I know it’s dog friendly but that doesn’t mean it’s okay to not be clean. I’ve stayed in immaculate places before that were dog friendly and with this place being £130 a night it wasn’t exactly cheap either. The fridge was gross, it stunk with spilt stains inside. The sofas had flecks of dirt on which I had to wipe down before I allowed myself to sit on them to then discover there’s no battery’s in the tv remote and the tv didn’t even work. The carpets are filthy with loads of stains and animal hairs. The glass doors between living room and kitchen area were dirty with prints. The bath had someone’s hair in it. The toilet had a blood stain on it and the shower was grotty with missing handles. The bed frame needs throwing out, definitely seen better days as the leather was all ripped and horrible. I wouldn’t of dared take my shoes off in this place so spent the night sharing slippers with my mum to go to the toilet as the floor was that bad. Since the tv in living room wasn’t working, we had to go watch tv in bed to find the remote upstairs wasn’t working so had to manually control the tv. Also the whole place was dusty and cobwebs on the lights. During the night was really windy and spent most of it awake as the drain pipe near window wasn’t connected at the top and kept banging off the wall. Just the overall experience was bad. We were only there for one night as we rushed down to visit a relative that had received some bad news and went to see them. So we were only after basic but dog friendly and nothing special but this was bad. Was going to complain on checkout but was literally no staff apart from chefs and just put key in a box and left. If I was looking for a nice weekend getaway I would of been mortified.
