Treasured memories made at Beautiful Rose Cottage

Reviewed By sammG853UY

Rose Cottage is a beautiful pink cottage dating back to the 1400's. Room was welcoming with a comfortable bed and surroundings, a tribute to it's cottage heritage. Facilities were spot on, and tastefully decorated, filled with treasured nik naks. Breakfast was generous, yummy and locally sourced. To sumarise everything was amazing and I couldn't have been happier. Apart from rating Rose Cottage excellent on everything you would want it graded by, Lou and Tom were the real stars that even out shone the beauty that Rose Cottage had to offer. Lou and Tom are warm, kind and welcoming, they made me feel like an old friend returning for a visit (this was my first). They went above and beyond to ensure I enjoyed my stay and I can truly say I have never met and felt so much genuine kindness and affection from anyone I had just met before. I take back with me and will treasure the memories of a beautiful place filled with beautiful people. Rose Cottage, Lou and Tom gold stars all around never mind 5 green ones.

I too am glad I didn't listen to reviews

Judging by the photos and reviews, I can only assume those writing scathing reviews were staying in a different hotel. This is one of those hotels that may not be 5 star but neither is the price. The hotel was clean, the staff friendly, the room comfortable and the breakfast (so you have to walk twenty yards to the sister hotel next door) was perfect. I'd gladly recommend it!

Would not come again

I have stayed at this hotel multiple times as I am a regular visitor to the university. One of the nights I had someone enter my locked room at 12am which woke my up and gave me a fright. Another time, I was given my room and as I entered it had not been cleaned. And then one morning at 7:48am I had the cleaner hoovering outside my room. I would not recommend this hotel.

Lots of information available about surrounding things to do and walks to go on. Although we only stayed for one night we felt very relaxed and calm - just what we need with busy lives! Breakfast delicious and came away with some lovely homemade jam too. Back to our busy lives now but would highly recommend Meadow Thatch.

Nightmare in the attic - stay at your own peril!

Reviewed By Issymheal

It was like something from a horror film. We stayed at the Crown Lodge and our room was on the third floor on the attic. Where to start? Room was tiny. The ceiling was very low and the ceiling ledges were that low that we all banged our heads on it several times. The window could not be opened at all on one side as there was not handle on it and the other small window was locked on a latch so could not be fully opened. There was a fan in the room but this just circulated stale air and we all came away with colds. The television is mounted on the wall where there is a shower behind it. Electrics and water could be potentially life threatening. No fire escape either which was also very worrying. Overall state of the room was very poor. Holes in the net curtains, stains on the bed cover, shower soap mounted on the wall fell off. We complained to the manager and he failed to accept any responsibility or apologize for the state of the room. I am sure that this accomodation has not had planning or passed building regulations. My concerns will be passed on to the tourist board as it is not safe to stay there.
