Palazzo Del Poeta

Fantastic

Reviewed By Simon S

My wife and I spent three nights at Rosa's Palazzo Del Poeta in mid-May. Everything was perfect! The room was spacious, the bed comfortable and everything was perfectly clean. Still speechless about the breakfast... During our stay, whenever we needed something, we got help immediately. Rosa has set up a most efficient messaging system, and she and her team always responded immediately. At the end of our trip, I forgot a jacket at Palazzo Del Poeta. Rosa notified me, asked me for my address, and sent it all the way to New York, not asking for anything. In short, the place (the palazzo itself and its location) is great and the team is fantastic - will go back as soon as we can go back to Sicily! Highly recommended! Simon

I stayed in this hotel when I was organising a nature tour in Sicily for a group of English people, and I will definitely stay there whenever I visit Palermo in the future. It's an extraordinary building - an old church that was abandoned for years and has been lovingly restored by the owner, Alessandro. He has an amazing imagination and has introduced glass floors and a glass lift shaft and decorated the entire hotel with interesting antiquities, art, vespers, bicycles and Sicilian knick-knacks. The bedrooms are comfortable and the bathrooms have antique sinks and are decorated with old Sicilian tiles. Breakfasts were lovely - as much coffee / pastries as you could possibly consume and a lovely side plate of fruit on every table. All the staff were warm and helpful, and, as other reviewers have mentioned, they're in touch with a team of people who can drive you to sites or to the airport and who are all professional, calm and reassuring. Alessandro himself is quite charming and he tells me he may be opening a sauna soon so look out for that! The hotel is right in the centre of town, near the Palazzo dei Normanni, which houses the Capella Palatina (unmissable) and regular exhibitions of modern art, and is a short walk away from the Cathedral and the pedestrianised Via Vittorio Emanuele. The hotel is in an old side street so there isn't a huge amount of light - but don't be put off by that because the location and ambience is perfect and you can dowse yourself in sunshine all day when you're walking around town. I highly recommend Porta di Castro. Thank you to Alessandro and all the staff for a very special stay.

Best location and wonderful hosts. No to breakfast at Ruvolo Gelateria

Reviewed By gchico62

We had a great 6-day stay at Palazzo Sovrana. The location is in the very center of Palermo, just in front of the Massimo Theater along Via Maqueda and close to Via Barra where all the wonderful restaurant and tourist attractions are just a walking distance. The common areas are all tiled with marble and everything has a luxurious feel, tastefully exhibiting work by local artists. The furnishings are brand new The staff (Paola and Filippo) are very friendly, communicative, and helpful. Paola gave us excellent restaurant recommendations, places to visit, and the best gelateria. Palazzo Sovrana is excellent and a highly recommended place to stay in Palermo. One minor thing—do not bother to use the breakfast vouchers at the Ruvolo Gelateria next door as they will not attend to you and make you wait without a care. I suggest that Palazzo Sovrana find another place to contract breakfast with for their guests.

Wonderful b&b in a brilliant city

This is a wonderful and comfortable b&b. It's like an oasis of calm right in the central bustle of Palermo. We had a family room, everything was spotless and thoughtfully set up. Fanny and all the staff were incredibly friendly and kind to our young children. Breakfast is delicious and it's so lovely to have it in the warm and quiet courtyard. Brilliant location too for exploring Palermo, which we found to be a really interesting and vibrant city. We are already planning our next stay!

Also a big thank you to Raffaella who kept the rooms immaculate. The rooms are beautifully decorated and furnished. The shower in en-suite was fantastic. Very modern and well equipped. Palermo itself is a fantastic city. Not a McDonalds, Burger King, Starbucks in sight. Just great bars and restaurants all authentic. Thoroughly recommend the hotel, perfect hosts in a perfect location.

Lovely and Luxurious in Sicily

Reviewed By karen r

When our taxi dropped us off and told us the hotel is the brown door- we thought "wow- authentic Sicily" we are going to stay as locals not tourists. We told Giacomo we would arrive at 5:00 (he reached out and asked us what time we would be there) The hotel couldn't be more perfect. Location and ambiance. Right across from the theater and down the street from shopping. A few blocks from the water front were I ran. The rooms are beautiful. I loved the sounds of the street but you can close the door to the balcony so you can see but not hear. The shower was so refreshing and the bed/pillows were top level. Breakfast was simple and fresh and just enough. The room you eat in is so bright with 2 windows - you can see all of Palermo.

Clean and spacious room with everything within a walking distance, super staff.

Right in the centre of Palermo, only a few minutes' walks from the airport bus stop at the Teatro Politeama Garibaldi, the location is just perfect. This small hotel is close to everything. The Teatro Massimo, the Quattro Canti, the pedestrian areas and other tourist attractions are just within walking distance. The room itself was very spacious! You can hardly get a room like this at the same or similar price in Palermo. It was also very clean and well maintained. The bedding was really good. We really had a good sleep in the room. By the way, as it's close to the road with some traffic, expect some noise. If you're a hard sleeper like us, prepare some earplugs and you will be fine. The hotel staff, especially the ower (Francesco?) was the highlight of this hotel! You can see right from the beginning that he's so passionate about his beautiful city and what he's doing. He took time to draw on the map the interesting points to visit, including some restaurant recommendations, which we of course followed and weren't disappointed. Thank you so much for taking good care of us during our stay! Highly recommend it if you're looking for a spacious room in Palermo with everything within the walking distance. We will surely return to this hotel again during our next visit.

Great location and host.

Reviewed By JUJinPNW

Great location and Manlio is an excellent host. We had a large room with windows that opened to an interior balcony- providing light and natural air. The B&B is on the top floor (3) and access is only by lots of stairs. The street entry is well lit, and on a convenient side street between two main roads. We felt safe walking at all hours. Manlio offered sightseeing and eating recommendations, and made a dinner reservation for us one night. Breakfast was ample and the fresh fruit was most appreciated. English spoken.
