He commissioned an architect by the name of Masereel to build him and his family a home, The Mansion. You can clearly see the neoclassical style he used in the face of the building as well as in the entryway with its dramatic pillars and detailing. Most of the detailing on the walls and ceilings however was not added until after the death of Hippolyte by the new owners who added murals and ceiling paintings.
