Stopped for one night due to a training course in the area. Euan was an excellent host and made me feel very welcome. The room and facilities were first class with a large variety of products to make your stay more comfortable. The room has a large king size bed which was very comfortable. The decor was clean and modern. I would definitely stay there again if I am again working in the area.

Me and my partner thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this BnB, hosted by Jackie. The house is beautiful inside and out, the host Jackie, is super-accomodating and friendly. She made sure we have everything we need and cooked up a scrumptious breakfast every morning for us (her Haggis is to die for!). Very clean and comfortable rooms, beautiful view from the window. We would highly recommend this stay. Thank you Jackie! From Inna and James

Stayed over for one night to go to see Massive Wagons at The Venue in the town. This hotel is just a few minutes walk from the town centre so is ideally located. The owner, Colin, and the staff were all very friendly and welcoming. I had a single room at the front which was very comfortable. It has a private bathroom next door and, whilst small, it was perfectly adequate. Breakfast was excellent and there was plenty of it. Great value and recommended.

Unfortunately the Rivendell had no redeeming noteworthy features at all. There was however, plenty to complain about, please see below. I would not recommend this property for any stay on any occasion. The hotel check in experience is very underwhelming with no-one to welcome you as a guest, although the website reviews state how every guest receives a warm welcome and how important that is to them. This property does not reflect the reviews given on the booking agency website either. You are greeted by a very tatty screwed up notice on the door stating that you have to telephone to check in. No-one answers your call and you're left wondering what to do next. Eventually someone calls and gives you a code to a key box in the entrance where your key and everyone else's room key is hanging, you're told where and when breakfast is served, that's it, that's the extent of the warm welcome. Then on entering the superior room you've booked, you're greeted with a cold room, broken and tatty furniture and a dirty bathroom, complete with the previous occupant's rubbish and discarded sanitary towel on the floor. All this and booking agency website's award to the property for their enhanced health, safety and cleanliness, really? Also, the property is completely unlocked and unsecured, which gives the guest no security or peace of mind. There are instructions displayed on the front door not to drop the latch, so that anyone can get in to the property at any time. When you have the audacity to ring and complain, this complaint is then sneered at, and on the request for a refund, a complete denial that there are any problems. We did not stay at the property and left almost immediately. As a guest, I would expect as a minimum that my room is clean, safe and secure, this property did not offer any of these requirements. I also complained to the booking agency website who have also contacted the property and received no replies. The hotel clearly do not care about anyone as a guest, or customer or indeed their property. I have tried to obtain a refund without success, either from the property or from the booking agency website. It is noteworthy that the booking agency website do not help or are able to offer a refund as the booking agency if the property choose not to reply to their messages. After complaining further to the booking agency website they just redirected me back to the property to make another complaint, which it’s not worth doing when I’ve already been refused any recompense.

A warm Scottish welcome awaits you at Glenlossie Guesthouse. Excellently located with private parking off the road and only 5 minute walk to the town centre. We also have a ground floor room with disability access available. Check in and check out is through our sister hotel, Dumfries Caledonian which is located next door. Breakfast can be pre-booked and is also served at Dumfries Caledonian.
Location is great your not far from anywhere that's the only good point. Beds insanely uncomfortable. Manger/owner not really sure rude as anything swearing at us. Walls completely stained with drinks etc. Breakfast awful. Pay extra and go somewhere better!

We are a small, family run hotel close to Dumfries town centre. We specialise in functions and can host events and weddings for up to 100 people. We no longer operate a restaurant facility within the hotel. Our bar area is generally open until last check in at 9pm but this can sometimes change. We recommend checking with staff upon arrival. However, there are also a number of other bars and restaurant close by.
We usually stay at the glenlossie guest house next door but decided to stay at the Caledonian this time we arranged an early check in with Bruce who was very helpful the room itself was a good size the only thing wrong was the bed it creaked ever time you moved and the mattress was below the four poster frame apart form that very good best breakfast in Dumfries will come back again
