They are located in a quiet area of the building and serve as perfect safe havens to relax and unwind. A family room with capsules already for the smallest guests guarantees an unusual stay. All guest come together to eat, work, mingle or play, in our common areas like the cozy lounge including our cafe. A charming courtyard, a pool table, a guest kitchen, a yoga studio, an (art) studio and our vegetable garden are available to all guests. The bus from the train station takes you to the airport in only 20 minutes.

The pragmatic choice for short stays

Reviewed By tamworth6

Pretty much the cheapest accommodation anywhere in central Basel, so you need to keep your expectations modest: the location is safe and central; the public areas are inviting and well-equipped – especially the communal kitchen would be invaluable for budget-conscious travel. The gent on reception was welcoming, witty and efficient. The room was clean but shabby (lots of marks on the wall; mismatched bedding; harsh lighting). I needed a clean, low-cost hotel close to the train station so I had somewhere to sleep between arriving at 22:00 and departing seven hours later. The Hyve was the pragmatic choice and I would definitely stay there again. Usually I stay in the Ibis Budget on such trips, but the Hyve is slightly cheaper and slightly closer to the station. The Ibis Budget seems better maintained, and of course you get your own bathroom there, but it is further from the station and inner city.

Small but cozy!

Reviewed By millydred

Reception was friendly; housekeeping was great! Room was relatively small and the toilet was worse. Suggest having a few more knobs installed in the room/toilet so we can hang things. Bed and pillow was VERY soft (not sure if it’s a Swiss thing). Small room but comes with coffee, tea, hot water from the Nespresso machine, TV, small cupboard with hangers. Location wise; a little far from town but the tram made it very accessible. Please take tram number 2 instead of bus 30. Tram drops you off way nearer.

Pleasant “country inn”

Reviewed By Hera38

The Landgasthof is a beloved traditional restaurant, which also offers hotel rooms, in the village center of an upscale town just outside Basel. The Beyeler Foundation, a world class museum of early modern to contemporary art, is a few steps away. The hotel rooms are clean and very comfortable, although marred by some misguided “kooky” design updates. You will enjoy the restaurants, a popular, pub-like “Stube” and a more formal set of rooms for fine dining. The surroundings are peaceful, with real country close by, but a pretty twenty-minute tram ride brings you to downtown Basel. The trams run at seven minute intervals and are free with the pass provided by the hotel.

Place is clean and the breakfast was good. A 3-bed room with a funny shower-construction without a door-not giving the showering person any privacy from the other persons in the room-tricky if you f.e. have a teenager. Also a joint toilet was for.us a new, unpleasant experience. All over the B&B there where signs with a lot of "dont's and do's", somethong I found very annoying and finger-pointing. The roomrate was 145 chf and then the charge for a simple coffee in the room was 1,5 chf. We also had a situation where we accidentally hit a metal pole in the parking (with our car). The first thing the lady said was that she woud hire a mason to make a new cement-base for the pole. We checked and the pole was just sticked into the soil-not cemented. We got the impression she wanted to improve her pole base on our expenses (situation still not clear).

Super Host & nice B & B

We loved our stay at Auf dem Wolf. We had a room that shared a bath with four other people, but it was no problem. The room was comfortable, and quiet. The host, Helga, was really helpful, and gave us tons of advice on how to spend our time in Basel. All of her suggestions were great. The breakfast in the morning was excellent. I would definitely recommend this B & B to anyone visiting Basel.

A lot of money for “must try harder”

Reviewed By alexkH4465GY

Given the price, the visit unfortunately did leave much to be desired. Service: the service was friendly and gradually increased in attentiveness. However, all diners this evening were squeezed into the roof winter garden. This is a nice room but not so much any more when tables and seats are so close to each other that on every pass, waiters have to push and touch you to squeeze through. In addition, the rustic wooden floor boards bounced up and down with every pass, catapulting our chairs 5 cm up and down. This is ok once in a while but gets annoying with many guests and waiters passing every 2 min throughout the evening. Covid aside, this overcrowded dining space seemed to make little sense with a whole dining space left empty on the ground floor. Food: we chose this restaurant because the menu seemed to be a step-up from the usual Swiss fare of fries and cordon-blue. However, there is still a way to go to deliver on the ambition. We all had full menus with starters, mains and deserts. The ordered cured salmon trout starter maybe sounded more sophisticated than it arrived. Never mind, thanks to clever marketing, I ordered two and a half folded slices of graved lax next to a pile of rocket salad, garnished with a super sour, slice of fruit or vegetable or whatever it was but it was ok in taste (once the punch in the face by the sour thing had eased). The difference between the so called starter Cesar salad and the mixed salad were a few thin slices of breaded chicken fillet (admittedly of ok quality) and three or four shavings of a warm hard cheese. I would say the absolutely laziest interpretation of a Cesar salad ever but the restaurant was not shy to charge a premium for it. Unfortunately, the Cesar and two mixed salads of other diners were watery and the French dressing inert and tasteless (despite the Cesar salad having been announced to sport original Cesar dressing). One ca be forgiven to think it was stretched to go further. Out of two different households, salad and dressing was the only overlapping dish that three different diners had and unfortunately, all complained of an upset stomach during the night and next day. It’s hard to pin-point and I don’t want to make wrong accusations but this is what happened. Anyway, to divert with a highlight, the ribs of the rare breed wooly pig in a sticky sauce were excellent in taste and generous in size (which was pacifying at more than 50 CHF). One minor criticism is that while the 70 degree cooking method made them fall of the bone, the high fat content of this cut was not given the chance to render down. Never mind, it was very tasty. A disappointment in contrast was the salmon trout dish. A minuscule fillet (ambitiously trying to break the 100g mark) with flabby skin on it, cooked or fried to oblivion, served with a block of polenta. The polenta did win the contest for dryness over the fish but only just. The inspiration on the plate, however, was delivered by a kind of crostini with goats cheese mousse playfully piped onto it. In terms of flavor combination, it was impossible to guess what this was about. I would consider preparing a fillet or salmon trout to the point belongs to the basics of restaurant cooking and charging 50 CHF for what arrived is inexcusable. Desert was ok. As we are moving into fall, it seemed a nice touch to add toasted hazelnuts as a red thread through the menu. However, if one disliked them it would have been hard to escape them. The wine list, on the up side, sports a good selection at normal prices. Unfortunately, there is only so much a good wine can rescue. In summary: way to much money for “must try harder”. The Roeschenzer Hof’s restaurant has done considerably better a while back and we shall not return to experience further decline.
