We liked the jazz theme and the interior of the Jazz Hotel, it is modern but not overdone or stuffy. The hotel was renovated a few years ago and is maintained well. Common areas and rooms are clean. Hotel is by the side of the one-way street leading into Ascona city center, so there is some road noise but it dies down in the evening and didn't bother us much despite having the balcony door open. Location is great, only a 5 minute walk to the lake. Breakfast is good quality and sufficient, but not elaborate. Freely available espresso/cappuccino machine in the lobby is a nice touch, along with lots of local information and magazines. Parking structure under the hotel is very convenient, although parking has a small extra charge. Hotel staff was friendly and helpful. Overall, we had a very good stay and plan to come back. This is a great mid-budget option on the Swiss side of Lago Maggiore,

SItued on the shores of Lake Maggiore, Osteria Ascona offers a restaurant with a terrace and frre WIFI. The air-conditioned rooms all offer lake-view.
Although this restaurant is not in front the lake, we had an amazing dinner. First of all, we ate a traditional dish of the region (tagliere dell’osteria), then we ordered the day before the “cotoletta impanata” which was delightful, we have never eaten such a cotoletta…so lovely! Besides, prices are very fair and the waitress were so friendly and helpful.

Stayed here for the recent Jazz Festival. It's a few step from the lake front and pretty quiet. We had two twin rooms, Room 8 is a little more spacious than room 9. Very comfortable, clean, lovely bathroom, TV. Much more reasonable than some of the other hotels and you can have breakfast in the main hotel. We would definitely go back again. No real view, as you look onto the backstreets, but that's lovely in itself.

You should not go for several reasons. Firstly the staff are very unpleasant, almost rude. Secondly, we waited 1.5 hours for the salads and another 30 minutes for the main course. The customers are not respected, very bad memory. I recommend the Grotto Baldoria at 200m!

We chose this hotel because of its location - it's right on the waterfront and directly opposite the place where all the boats come in. I have MS, which makes walking a problem, and all the staff were very concerned and apologetic that there was no lift in the hotel and that the stairlift was broken (I knew about this in advance and had explained that climbing stairs is part of my physiotherapy). All the staff were very friendly and helpful in every respect - the chambermaid even came and offered a mat for the shower without being asked. The hotel offers a 10% discount on all food and drink bought by guests in the hotel, and after our first meal in the restaurant we decided we need look no farther for our evening meals. The menu was more Italian than Swiss, with homemade excellent pizzas, pasta and fish from the lake. There was also a selection of Thai dishes, which we didn't try. The restaurant next door, which is part of the same chain, has a more extensive menu, making the choice even greater. We made our best discovery in the café though. We've ordered tea many times in many places, and always been offered a cup of fairly warm water and a tea bag, plus a jug of hot milk. However in the Al Faro our English hearts were delighted to be given two mugs (!) of very hot water (as good as it gets), tea bags and a jug of cold milk - we did ask for the latter because the waiters all speak French. The result was the closest thing to English tea we have ever found in Europe. Breakfast was served in the restaurant of the hotel next door and was very good. There was a selection of cereals, bread, cheeses, jams, eggs and ham and the croissants were very good. The only drawback was that WiFi access came from this hotel, so it was only available to us when we went there for breakfast or if we sat on that part of the terrace.
