After an easy crossing on the ferry it is an open stroll on the South West Coast Path above the western shoreline of Salcombe. Only 45 mins to Gara Rock Hotel for a 'pit stop' this is a great walk for families as well. There is also a lovely forest walk back to the ferry which is only 20 min. With access to lovely hidden beaches this makes for a great day out.
The walk from Gara Rock to Salcombe (we did it that way round) offers an upper and lower option for most of the way. The lower path takes you closer to the cliff edge on the early part of the walk and closer to the estuary as you near Salcombe. Either upper or lower option offer stunning views of the rocky coastline and of Salcombe as you turn the corner towards the town. A fabulous walk whichever route you take and around 90 minutes each way. Take in the trees shaped by the wind and the millionaires mansions on either side of the river.

Not really a beach in the true sense of the word - more of a place to walk the dog & take in the views of the river. Take the ferry to Shaldon, walk among the boats & breathe in the salty air

Naturist beach which is located on Slapton Sands, near Strete, south of Dartmouth. In 1944, it was the site of the World War II military exercise, Exercise Tiger.
This has been on the Bucket List since I first read about it a few years back. As you travel towards the village you see the inland nature reserve & then a car park with the Sherman Tank that was extracted from the sea by Ken and placed here as a memorial to all the lives lost on that fateful day in Apr 1944 that should have been a practice for D-Day. Very moving indeed because as you venture across the road you see the wide open sandy beach which was so peaceful on our visit & it’s hard to imagine why lives were lost . I understand there is a 2nd tank on the other end of the beach.

We visited on a cold, wet and windy day. The waves crashing on the breakwater, throwing spume 30 feet in the air was spectacular. I can imagine that in the summer this would be an ideal beach for families with young children. On a sunny day it must look beautiful.

Ever since I can remember taking holidays at Dawlish Warren and the surrounding area the beach is Sandy very clean and in some cases weather wind dependant sheltered by the sea wall or the rock outcrop at Langstone. Popular beach and sea wall walk to Dawlish around 20 minutes stroll. Warren end shops cafe bar pub toilets and gaming arcade plus speedway all very popular as well. Car parking here can I’d say be a bit of a Devon council cash cow the price of parking that is .... but if your fortune is in luck there may be the odd free space to the left of the fish shop up the station approach room for around six cars.

This area is amazing and we loved the costal walks ,it was safe and great for all types of walkers, you can go for miles and miles. The beach area has nice cafe, ice cream place and the marine centre, it is a National Trust car park where you have to pay ,it was nicely managed and we felt welcome. We loved this area and would highly recommend it.

This is a great beach to walk along, especially with dogs. It's great that a large section is dog friendly all year round. You get lovely views and you can paddle or swim from most areas of the beach.

A lovely peaceful, sandy and fairly quiet beach provided all we needed for a family day by the sea. Great car parking spaces and very convenient toilets, beach shop and food outlet as well.
