I was so looking forward to this, and it certainly did not disappoint. Beautiful beach with gorgeous icebergs and black sand. Quite busy at the main part, but as soon as you start walking down the beach you're alone.

We weren’t expecting much, after all a beach is a beach and so what if the sand is black not white or yellow? How wrong we were. It is an absolutely stunning site. High cliffs with strata running this way and the other, hexagonal pillars on the face of the next cliff, a large high cave, a roaring sea with waves crashing into the shore with plumes of spray, all contrasting with the black of the beach. The weather was rainy and windy but there were plenty of tourists. In our view they provided scale to the views, and didn’t detract from it

This is a beautiful black sand beach, but definitely NOT of the sunbathing/swimming kind. Here you can appreciate the powerful waves of the ocean, admire the soaring sea cliffs with sea birds, look for perfectly polished pebbles and rocks, and examine the stunning geology of the basalt columns. Do be careful of small children and heed the warning of the signs...the waves are like nothing you've ever experienced regardless of when you visit and you WILL be swept if you're not paying attention. NEVER turn your back to the ocean!

We started off with the top outlook then debated whether ot's worth to join some others to go down there, oh boy was it worth it! The path leading down the beach is probably the best part of it, a short but nice walk among the lava formed rocks. Pictures speak a thousand words!

So peaceful and wondrous, the colours of the algae were a stunning feast for the eyes and algae covered the beach as far as the eye could see.The lighting changed frequently with the weather which varied from bright sunshine to overcast and rainy in short bursts. It was such a dramatic setting with the tall mountains towering in the background. The water was like a lake, birds bobbed along in a line in the distance. The tide was rising and seals, resting on low lying boulders, reluctant to move struggled to maintain their balance. I was loathe to leave. We were only going to be here for about 30 minutes, but spent several hours, a truly wondrous sight. It was the quietness and serenity that made it seem so ethereal.

I happened upon Skarðsvík Beach during my drive of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula while I was on my way to Svörtuloft Lighthouse. It really looks stunning to see a golden beach in a country full of black sand beaches, especially against the lava rocks background and the blue sea. It looked almost tropical. It was very peaceful to walk along the shoreline and watch the crashing waves. Just be careful if you are visiting at high tide and/or it is very windy.

I took my two children to the ‘fake beach’, as they have christened it, on an icy day. We walked to the beach from our apartment in Bolholt and it took 30 minutes. The children were amazed and slightly confused to be going to a beach on a sunny day and yet be slipping on ice on the journey there! The facilities were good, open changing rooms have no excuse for being a British prude, and the beach was beautiful. The water was cold and I was in awe of the locals going in for a dip, we could only paddle! The hot springs however were lovely, we were gutted when they shut at 2pm as we could have stayed all day. There is also a steam room. The staff were friendly and the visit was the cheapest of our trip, and I’d recommend a visit if you are visiting Iceland on a budget.
