Located in the southwestern part of Switzerland, in its French-speaking part between Lake Geneva and Lake Neuchâtel, the Canton of Vaud is a vacation destination where life is good. Easily accessible thanks to the proximity of Geneva international airport and an exceptionally dense public transport network, the region offers all the necessary infrastructures, from five-star palaces to charming guest rooms. The diversity of its landscapes, from the peaks of the Alps, to the lakeside towns of Lausanne and Montreux, to the wide open spaces of the Jura and the authentic charm of the countryside, concentrates all the facets of Switzerland in one territory. The beautiful towns and villages, such as Lausanne, Montreux, Nyon, Morges and Yverdon-les-Bains, are steeped in centuries of history and rich in captivating culture. This region has influenced and inspired artists over the years, from Lord Byron and Audrey Hepburn to Charlie Chaplin and Freddie Mercury. But the region is best known for its art of living. Local or internationally renowned events, outdoor sports activities, regional know-how, typical and high level gastronomy, excellent wines, living traditions, cultural offer... are all elements that seduce visitors.

This brilliant Artisan and Folklore Museum is not really hidden, located as it is along the main street of the charming Vaudoise village of Chateau D'Oex. We went on a recommendation to see the fine collection of historic and contemporary Swiss Paper Cuttings. The Museum did not disappoint and offered a lot more besides. There is an audio tour in multiple languages but most signage is in the local German or French. There are four floors of incredibly well preserved and well presented examples of craftsmanship, ranging from woodwork, metalwork, blacksmithing, locksmithing, gunsmithing and carpentry. A magnificent array of Swiss Cow and Goat bells as well as Lacework, Beadwork and oil painting. There is an excellent Bookshop entirely devoid of the usual tourist tat. What a blessing. Much recommended! And it is all free! Amazing for a Museum of this quality in Switzerland.

The unexpected, the unusual, a home for outsider art before there was even such a category. Naive, regional and outsider artists convene in one outstanding collection of truly rarified art. Don't miss the tattoo collection (yes actual skin) dating from the 19th century. If you like strange exotic and esoteric art, this is the place for you!

A small house built for his parents by Le Corbusier, visionary architect and urban planner, combined with a great talent of communication and self promotion. On a limited surface on the shores of lake Geneva, he built the house of the future in the early twenties of last century: Small, different and practical. When you visit try to meet the curator of this landmark, his passion for the place and the person, still being objective and factual about the flaws of innovation, makes this a unique experience. The Alexis Forel Museum offers more than 700m2 of exhibition space in a 16th century house with an Italian-style interior courtyard, where old colonnades, doors, stoves and fireplaces meet contemporary works. Founded in 1918 by Alexis and Emmeline Forel to present their collections of furniture, ceramics and above all prints, the museum nowadays gives a prominent place to varied temporary exhibitions, artistic or historical, which mainly revolve around regional heritage, prints and cinema. The lithographs of David Lynch, the works of Albertine and Germano Zullo, Martial Leiter, Schauenberg, as well as the figures of Peter Ustinov or Capucine, and the Morgian artists of yesterday and today, have adorned our walls. We offer between three and six temporary exhibitions per year, detailed information on which is available on our website. A rich collection of icons from Russia, as well as the collection of Dream Boxes made by Marie d'Ailleurs are permanently visible.
