MOCA BANGKOK has been purposely built to showcase and exhibit the exceptional works of art collected over the past three decades by Boonchai Bencharongkul, whose passion for art runs deep. The museum is also intended as a tangible sign ofappreciation for the many great favours bestowed upon the Thai people by our beloved monarch, King Rama IX, and is dedicated to the honour of Professor Silpa Bhirasri, the “Father of Contemporary Art” in Thailand. MOCA BANGKOK displays works of art inspired by traditional Thai modes of expression alongside art that has been influenced by the introduction of Western artistic styles and techniques. Some 800 works selected from Boonchai Bencharongkul’s private collection are exhibited in the 20,000 square metres of well – lit white space. These artworks stand as a statement of Thai creativity, beliefs, and thought processes. They also place for the first time on permanent display, a large quantity of what can be considered the best works of Thai art-a te
Moca is not on the list of most but it should be. Great museum opened in 2012 with great art that you probably have not been exposed to. Start at the top floor and work down. Even the viewing benches are works of art. Spent 3+ hours here and could have stayed longer. From downtown, take BTS to Mo Chit and then a short cab ride (about $4-5US). as its off the beaten path.

ART IN PARADISE (BANGKOK) Art in Paradise (Bangkok), the first "illusion" and three-dimensional museum in Bangkok, comprises six permanent exhibition zones with different concepts. Every painting was ranged from period or country themes, and there is also a great mix of traditional and new art. The museum is divided into two floors, over 2,500 square meters and 150 paintings that visitors can have fun and enjoy the new experience with interactive paintings. Paintings inside Art in Paradise (Bangkok) were drawn by 15 professional artists who initiated "3D" painting in Korea and Thailand, they had spent two and a half months painting the wall and floor by hand from emptiness filled to the perfection with specific techniques through the use of art in a way that Thailand never had before. Art in Paradise (Bangkok) welcomes you to experience the difference and feel the new touch of Arts. Art is in our life, Art in Paradise. Opening Hours: 10.00AM-10.00PM (Monday - Sunday)
Spectacular 3D art at every corner and very photogenic spot to visit! 400 baht might seem like a lot but for 2-3 hours in such an artistic corner of Bangkok I'd say it was worth it. Definitely wear pants to enjoy posing as there is a lot of moving, lying down and funny pictures to be taken. We wore dresses and it wasn't as comfortable as we imagined. Bring a camera and try to go as 3 or more people, as some spots are great for 2-person or group shots. Wear easy to take off shoes as this is a barefoot museum. It was quite the trek from Sukhumvit but very easy to reach, just take the MRT and you will land right at Esplanade Mall.

We were lucky this trip to see the Puppet Show, after missing it last time two years ago. This time we had our granddaughter with us. The puppets came to magical life through the skill of the puppeteers. The puppeteers are dressed in black and masked, so that the puppets' personalities dominate. At the end of the performance the puppets engaged with the audience. Our granddaughter received a lovely hug from one of them. A special experience. Incredibly, there is no charge for the puppet show, especially since the training and skill is high. You get to witness a Thai cultural performance at no charge! I think The Artist's House is an marvellous place, it's like being in the country but right in the middle of a huge city. It's a quiet, cool spot in the middle of Bangkok and it's delightful to sit there on the coffee shop verandah, on the klong, and watch the boat traffic pass by and to see all the houses on stilts with their gardens and decor, so colourful and creative. Upstairs is the art for viewing or buying. I think we took about a million photos here.

The Bangkok Sculpture Center is the museum and learning center which displays Thai sculptures from the Buddhist art to modern art era more than 200 pieces.
The Bangkok Sculpture Center has been on my "must visit" list for perhaps a year after reading an article about it. My partner and I finally got to visit yesterday, and we were knocked out by the experience. We hadn't booked in advance, but we were given a guided tour by a delightful and highly knowledgable young woman. Sermkhun Kunawong's collection of sculptures is a priceless asset to Thailand's artistic repertoire, and has been lovingly put together, beautifully curated, and passionately displayed in an unusual and attractive building which also houses Khun Sermkhun's company offices. What a glorious place to work! This important collection includes some wonderful ancient religious images (housed in a stunning room), and progresses through early 20th century figurative works right up to the present day. Many of Thailand's National Artists are represented here, including some of my favourites. Although the location is a bit of a distance from the city centre, it is well worth the 30 minute drive to get there (taxis are easy). You may want to call ahead (number on their website or FB page) to make sure you don't go when they are doing a school group tour or suchlike. Highly recommended. Together with MOCA and the BACC, the Bangkok Sculpture Center now joins my list of favourite art locations in Bangkok. A truly wonderful experience

To me the word “folk” gives the wrong impression. I would call it “Old Vintage Homes of Old Bangkok” The main attraction in the white 1927 Panya house which was usually a two story wooden gabled roof white house painted to look like a cement home. The home was owned by an upper middle class family during the time when the area was a neighborhood of homes and tree lined streets instead of high rise apartments, ugly 60ish style cement block shops, and a couple expressways devouring the peaceful post WWII neighborhoods. The daughter, (who grew up in the house) saw the importance of saving the house when she became a well known university professor and saw her whole neighborhood vanishing. She was able to donate the estate to the city for a museum. During the process she was able to move her father’s teakwood clinic to the backyard of the small museum grounds. It was also a joy to see the architecture and furnishings. There is another small building that has a old traditional kitchen on display. If you’re into old homes ( not mansions) this is worth a couple hours to explore. It is about a 25 minute walk from the BTS Thaksin station or take a taxi but make sure the address is written in Thai; for, this is not a major tourist attraction. GPS on Google maps helped my taxi driver. (btw: The museum supervisors there love their work & meeting visitors.)

Every year we visit Princess Sirindhorn's photo exhibition, a highlight of her travels with a little insight into the life of a royal. This December interesting exhibition on LGBTQI in South East Asia.
