Usadba Sukhanovykh-Sumovskikh

Now it is the Institute of Applied Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine The architectural ensemble of three brick buildings was erected in 1895 at the expense of Mykola Sukhanov. An "English" garden-park with a wooden gazebo and a flower garden was laid during the construction. This small palace was built as a private family estate. During the Civil War, part of the collection of Kyiv industrialist Oscar Hansen was kept here – porcelain tableware and paintings. After the establishment of Soviet rule, the estate with the art gallery was twice nationalized and twice returned to the owners of the estate: the first time by the Central Rada in 1918, and the second time by the Denikins in 1919. Now in the premises of this complex is the Institute of Applied Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

Holy Resurrection Cathedral

In 1702, on the initiative of Colonels Gerasim and Andrii Kondratiev, the first stone church was built in Sumy - Voskresenska. In 1791 it burned down completely and was rebuilt only at the beginning of the XIX century. At the time of construction, in addition to the sacred role, the temple also played the role of a fortress, as evidenced by the extremely thick walls and deeply embedded windows-embrasures. In Soviet times, the church served as a dormitory and warehouse. In the postwar period, beginning in 1945, the local authorities attempted to destroy the Church of the Resurrection. In 1966, a new decision was made to demolish the building, but then it was transferred to the Sumy Art Museum. In 1978 the church was restored, and in 1996 the building was transferred to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate. The Resurrection Cathedral in Sumy is one of the few religious buildings of the Orthodox Christian faith, which has several independent floors. This makes it uniq

This is an Incredible landmark in Odessa, it is near the Main Train Station as a point of reference, it has religious article store that has some very precious art in beautiful hand made frames, the prices for Foreigners are incredibly cheap, if you are not orthodox the priest in charge reserves the right not to sell it too you, even if you are Christian, the Church itself i was not able to access the day I was there but if you are in Odessa It would be a great part of your walking tour, which I recommend highly, as the architecture in Odessa is very unique with very much Greco Roman and French Provincial style buildings, this city is addicting to the eye of the artist and the romanticist, I would call it the jewel of the Black Sea, plus its inhabitants are very friendly and educated Enjoy!

Armenian Virgin Mary's Dormition Church

Reviewed By ptaxa2015 - Canton of Fribourg, Switzerland

The Armenian Cathedral in Lviv was built in 1363-1370. By the way, it was the first cathedral in the city of Lviv, for the Ruthenian Metropolitanate (and cathedral) was located in the tawn of Halych and the Roman Catholic Metropolitanate with the see in Lviv was founded later (first source based information about the building of the Latin cathedral comes from 1399). From the time of its construction there is only one fresco in the Armenian cathedral (of the st. Apostle Judas Thaddaeus) in the niche in the altar part (to your right, when you look towards the main altar), which preserved because for many centuries ist was covered up by a side altar or something like that. Only by the restauration in the 20th century the side altar has been removed and the old fresco behind it discovered. Another interesting thing is a depiction of the 12 Astrological signs, represented in the arcade in the form of corresponding constellations. Very interesting for me was also the representation of the senses, showed in the form of allegorical figures. And a special detail: there are not 5, but 6 senses depicted there, it means that the intuition is added as the 6th one (greetings to all, who like stories about persons with the extrasensory perception). There are also many other interesting and creepy images there, like the figures of the spirits, who follow the burial procession, and so on (all the fans of the Supernatural series will love it).
