Mostly jutting northward from its largest city of Amsterdam and its capital of Haarlem, the Noord-Holland region has much more to offer beyond those two wonderful cities. At Muiden is the magnificent Muiderslot Castle, as if it stepped out of a fairy tale. Showing more wear but no less interesting is Brederode Castle at Santpoort. At Zaanstad is Zaanse Schans, one of Holland’s top tourist destinations and a family-friendly open air museum of windmills, traditional buildings, crafts and shops.

Wester-Amstel: Country House and Park Since 1662 is a piece of serenity located just a bike ride away from Amsterdam. It's located on the banks of the Amstel River and at the last river bend before Ouderkerk. Wester-Amstel is the perfect destination to escape the city and venture into the surrounding countryside. Our house, park, and gardens are enriched by four centuries of history. We highly recommend our audio tour (available in English and Dutch). It will take you on a wonderful stroll through our estate and entertain you with stories of times long past. The benches and picnic spots will give you the perfect excuse to just sit back and relax. For more information, please visit our website.
We heard about Wester Amstel through a friend and decided to give it a go, over last weekend. Must say, it was one of the most fulfilling experience I have had with my family in Netherlands. The estate is a hidden gem that unfolds itself if you start exploring it. From fruit orchard to flowerbeds, from old farm house (with an incredible and interesting history) to oak plantations (and a mini cozy tea house in the corner), it is a truly enriching experience that transports you to a unique natural and historical feel. The owners and staff are equally hospitable as the total environment. They take a personal pride and interest in showing around and sharing stories about the history of entire estate in a very engaging way (of course if they are available). Our daughter had a specially great time picking pears and apples from orchard and running behind chickens. All in all a great day we spent and would love to visit time and again.

Completed in 1889 and located in the heart of town, this neo-Renaissance rail station was designed by P.J.H. Cuypers, the same person who designed the famous Rijksmuseum.
Beautiful building with amazing architecture and history, there's information hubs large screen's and timetables available throughout the station with regular updates on departures and arrivals, the ticket stations are convenient speedy and it's card only payments, a very busy station any time of the day or night so plenty of time is required for people to get around the shopping area also deserves a mention great shopping options ????

The Sanatorium Zonnestraal by architect Duiker is one of the earliest and most important examples of architecture of the Modern Movement. Apart from a high point in architectural history, the complex is also an important social landmark. Conceived as a follow-up colony cure tuberculosis sufferers prepare for their reintegration into society, is the brainchild of Sunbeam trade unionist Jan van Zutphen (1863-1958). His ideal is realized with money that the diamond workers union brings together the TB Patients on its members to help.Monthly tourEvery last Sunday of the month there are tours (1 ½ hour) provided by a professional guide. These tours start at 12.00 hours and 14.00 hours from Dresselhuis Pavilion (nr. 19). One should specify in advance to Landgoed Zonnestraal

In a bespoke designed park the pinnacle of Dudok's architecture dominates the Hilversum skyline. Still in full use after 90 years, the design marks the creativity and consistency of one of the world's best architects, also responsible for many other design in and around Hilversum. There is a very insightful museum in the cellar and on weekend days you can get a excellent tour around the building; including the tower.
