Getting its name from the medieval Duchy of Limburg (now split among Holland, Belgium and Germany and the birthplace of the infamously pungent Limburger cheese), Limburg is the Netherlands’ southernmost region. Many of the area’s best attractions are concentrated in the capital of Maastricht, but other sights include the 12th-century Valkenburg castle ruins, the 17th-century Eijsden castle, the 20th-century Glaspaleis (built next to a medieval church at Heerlen), and De Meinweg National Park.

Very well restored cathedral, which has evolved from Romanesque to early Gothic to full-blown Gothic - and has a lot of remarkable treasures on display.

Bosch Brewery is the last complete city brewery in Maastricht. As an industrial monument, the brewery is unique to the Netherlands. It is completely intact, with malting house, brewery and brewer's house! All parts of the brewery can be visited. Our team of enthousiastic and expercienced volunteers will show you the brewery. A English or German guided tour lasts about one hour. Then you can taste two Maastricht beers with regional cheeses.
We visited this with a group and had Rene Brouwers (appropriate name for a guide in a brewery :-) =Brewer in Dutch) to show us around. fascinating really ! it is a trip back to the past and very vivid and colourful. the buildings are vaste and astonishing, packed with history and also a treat for Non Beer lovers. you see all, from the malt to the bottlery and even can see the private house where the last heir of Bosch lived until 2008 ! at the end, of course, some beer tasting is possible in a very nice historic room, de Ridder zaal, named after the previous competition of the Bosch Brewery (funny, but logic, this is a non profit house and the Ridder Brewery is gone forever including the buildings etc and here some of their treasures are honoured with respect in this hall) go and visit, it is worth your time and you help the volunteers and the foundation to keep improving and keeping this heritage.

Do not miss this book store, it will be an experience you will never have again. The cafe at the back of the store is a perfect place to pause your day and take in the wonderful tea, coffee and treats. I can’t even explain the feeling you get when you enter this ancient church which has been restored to be a fascinating book store with thousands of books, music, magazines and loads of wonderful trinkets. A must see! Side effect is, you end up in the heart of Masstricht, a world heritage site, you won’t regret this visit.
