The 10 Best Archaeology Tours in London, England

March 16, 2022 Joeann Galban

The crown jewels, Buckingham Palace, Camden Market…in London, history collides with art, fashion, food, and good British ale. A perfect day is different for everyone: culture aficionados shouldn't miss the Tate Modern and the Royal Opera House. If you love fashion, Oxford Street has shopping galore. For foodies, cream tea at Harrod’s or crispy fish from a proper chippy offers classic London flavor. Music and book buffs will love seeing Abbey Road and the Sherlock Holmes Museum (at 221B Baker Street, of course).

I was a little nervous about taking my kids, 15 and 7, to the British Museum. Neither has a lot of experience with the history, and I was afraid they would get bored or overwhelmed. Roberta, our guide, made the trip through the museum a perfect mix of history and fun for them. She picked out great highlights, told them stories and pointed out details we would have otherwise missed, and integrated little games and challenges that kept them engaged. My 7-year-old now knows about different kinds of classical columns, what a pediment is, and all about mummies! I highly recommend Roberta and Pinocchio Tours –– they made the trip a great success!

We had an amazing trip to Stonehenge, Bath and the Cotswolds with Oz; our courteous driver and tour guide. The trip was very professional and very well organized. From the outset, we could tell we were in good hands. Oz really knows his way around the area and his depth of knowledge of the history of the locations is fantastic. You could not ask for a better guide. Our trip was a little different because we asked not to go to The Roman Museum and spend more time in the Cotswolds. Oz picked us up on time and the van was very comfortable. We were provided hand sanitizer in the van for our use and offered face masks if needed which was also reassuring. It was quite a long drive out to Stonehenge, but Oz kicked things off with an interesting talk on London as we passed by important buildings. He then gave us an amazing introduction speech about Saxons, Vikings and ancient history that really had us hooked on what we were going to see! The whole day was superb, we never felt rushed and enjoyed it so much from beginning to end. Thanks for a great day Oz - this was the best day of our holiday!
