The Lonely Planets pick for Thames. Nestled high in the hills above Thames, Grafton Cottage and Chalets is in a excluded, peaceful tree-lined setting far from any traffic noise. At the end of each day exploring the Coromandel, relax in the spa, or simply laze by the pool overlooking the sea. BBQ your dinner while watching the sun set over the sea or sample the local restaurants. We offer self contained chalet accommodation in individually designed studio, 1 and 2 bedroom cedar chalets. A delicious full continental breakfast (Grafton Cottage style), on site staff and daily housekeeping is included in the room rate.
Rooms were clean and quiet with amazing views of the ocean. Our host was very helpful and friendly. Loved the complimentary liqueur and the breakfast was good. BBQ, spa and pool were all very enjoyable, especially in the hot, hot weather. My only feedback would be that the pool needs a bit more filtering at times. Would stay again - great Pacifica vibe.

The Lady Bowen Bed and Breakfast and has a Historic Places Category 2 listing. Guests can stay a night or two (or longer) in this charming 152 year old building that has been lovingly renovated into very comfortable accommodation. The layout of the building remains much as it was in 1868, with bedrooms and guest bathroom upstairs and the bar (now guest lounge) and dining room downstairs.
Perfect place to stay after a day's cycling. Welcomed by Stu and Barbara with a short tour of the house, and offered a complimentary glass of wine and cheese board - lovely! Secure space for the bikes and Stu kindly charged the batteries in his shed. Super comfy beds and rooms are clean and well maintained. Lovely breakfast in the morning which set us up for our day's biking. Thank you for the stay!

Peaceful bush setting off the main road yet only a 5 minute stroll to the main street for shopping and restaurants. 4 X 1-brm units with full kitchens; 2 x studios with microwave and tea/coffee-making facilities. Guest Select SKY TV offering 50+ channels.
Although an older style Motel it is in Top condition and the standard of cleaning would be the highest that we have experienced in a long time. We had booked a Studio Unit but prior to arrival there had been a cancellation and we were upgraded to a one bedroom unit. Lots of little extras to make the stay very enjoyable. There would be no better place to stay in Thames than the Brookby Motel.

So my son called as he had heard Dickson Holiday Park was open for long term rental. He spoke to a gentleman on the phone who confirmed they are. He asked if my son is working? Yes, my son replied. He is doing a building apprenticeship for a well regarded local builder. How old is he, the man asked. 18 my son said. Was it just for him? Yes, single accommodation, my son replied. We do have something available he said, come over after two. We did. We arrived to the property, called the phone as the office was unattended. We let the woman on the other end of the phone know that we were the ones here to see the cabin available for long term rent. She came down, let us in and demanded to know if we were vaccinated. "No one is allowed on site who is not fully vaccinated". We produced our vax passes and she had to go off to get her phone to scan our passes. She then returned, scanned our passes with shaking hands. Once scanned in, she told us that there was no long term rentals available. We said the man said there was. She asked how old my son is. We said he is 18, so she started to tell us how they don't rent to anyone under 40! She also asked where he was from. We said Thames. She then told us that they don't rent to anyone local.....as "why can't you just live at home!" She was SO rude and obnoxious! I don't believe she was telling us the truth at all as the man would have said these things, over the phone first! My son is clearly NOT 40 or older....but he is a gorgeous shade of brown. Such a good, handsome lad. He has told me he gets treated differently because of his darker colour, but this time I saw it with my OWN EYES!! Heart breaking to see Racism alive and well in our small town. Shame on you Dickson Holiday Park. How dare you treat my son so poorly. How about get out of the dark ages (no pun intended) and pull your head out. Does not matter, he has found much better accommodation at Tapu now. I don't want him anywhere near toxic people like yourselves. Utterly disgusted in you!
