Wedding-Event Venue and Restaurant located on a family-farm near Tuscola, Texas about 15 minutes south of Abilene, Texas. The Homeplace serves a delicious buffet lunch on Sundays.
Hosted a rehearsal dinner hear. Buffet style, Most everyone said they enjoyed the meal. Staff was accommodating even though we were 45 minutes later than we initially said. Salad was ok, meats were good. Chicken fried steak fingers and gravy was good. They ran out of some of the dishes that I would have liked to have tried. Friendly staff and service was good. Would like to go back to try some more dishes in a less busy time.
On my way back through Tuscola I stopped in at the Lone Star. I asked the waitress what she recommended as the menu was never ending. To my surprise she recommended the grill cheese with jalapeño's. All I can say is WOW! The grilled cheese with jalapeño's is beyond good. As a matter of fact I had to get another one.I will make it a point to always stop in and get a one anytime I am in the area because it is that good.
This little store and café in Buffalo Gap, Texas is a great little place to eat for the locals and I plan on bringing some of my out of town friends here too. Most days/nights you can walk in and sit down to eat. The atmosphere is a tiny, and I mean tiny, little country store. The shelves barely have the essentials on them, but if you were in desperate need of something you could get it here. The other half of this tiny store is the dining room. It is furnished with small tables from four to perhaps six to eight, and there are only about 10 tables total, right next to the beverage coolers, and comprising of a mix of chair and table types. They also have a small outside covered dining area with four tables. The menu is small, but includes burgers, sandwiches, salads, steaks and desserts. They even have a nice breakfast menu. We tried it one night while trying restaurants we had never been to before and this one stuck out to us. We really enjoyed the small quaint store and dining area, and the food was really good. The Owner's are always very attentive to you if you need something, they get it right away. So, I said you could walk in and sit down most days/nights. On Friday's, they have a reservation only night, and the place is packed every Friday, especially when they are serving steak. We happened to walk-in one recent Friday night, not thinking we would be sitting inside, but we were able to get a table on the exterior patio. The smoke house is separated from the rest of the building and located in the front, just off the parking lot. You can walk up and talk to the cook as he is working, and the smoke and smell of the steaks is all around the exterior patio. Not too smokey, but you will smell it later if you don't change your clothes. Our steaks (very large rib eye) were absolutely delicious. Cooked as we ordered, with a great seasoning that they let sit over night. It came with baked potato (or fries) and a salad for $18. Now I am usually one to use a little A-1 steak sauce with my steak, but I tell you, this did not need anything. For dessert, they have homemade pies and cakes that you must try. They are also fantastic. So, if you are in the area, and are looking for something a little different, check out this place. One of my new favorites.
Oldest Bar B Que joint in the county, dining room in front, tap room in the back, walk through the swinging doors and relax in the tap room, watch the big screen or play pool or shuffleboard. we serve beef Bar B Que, German sausage, smoked ribs and chicken
Good, tender barbecue, beans & potato salad once again. Before, I couldn't dine in, but now smoking is only allowed in the bar area. I love their barbecue, but the potato salad and beans are better than lots of our other joints in Abilene. Free refills on tea, but soft drinks come in cans, no fountain drinks.

Deutschlander's is a family restaurant with absolutely delicious catfish. It is a pretty homespun place with friendly service and a very pleasant west Texas garden area that is nice in the fall. You cannot go wrong when you order the catfish, but they have a lot of other fried options on the menu. The restaurant is usually full of children and one can be sure to get a sticky table. Hang in there. The catfish is yummy.

Buffalo Gap isnât a place I would normally expect for a great steakhouse but Perini Ranch didnât disappoint. My ribeye was cooked to perfection. The catfish was also extremely tasty. All in all a great place for a delicious lunch.

The Taphouse is a locally owned and operated Abilene restaurant and bar that specializes in what we like to call Texas Comfort Food. Our made-from-scratch menu is flanked by a huge selection of craft beer, craft cocktails, and a carefully chosen wine list
I've been several times, including a birthday dinner back in February of this year. Most recently, went to brunch maybe 3 weeks ago. It's never been perfect, but it's still always been good.Waitstaff sometimes takes a while to get to you, but that's because it's been packed every time I've been. When they do get to you, they're very helpful and nice, willing to do anything to make sure your meal is right.Once a cocktail was just too strong for me, they replaced it without any problem. Occasionally, I'll order something that isn't quite what I expected, but it's always still good, except that first time there, the tea-brined chicken was a little too salty. Sides and dessert were still fantastic. My personal favorite menu item is the steak diane, great with the potatoes and green beans (still have a little crunch to them, not mushy, taste excellent) or subbed with asparagus instead of the beans. The sauce is just amazing, and my steak has always been tender, well worth the money spent.Brunch menu is good, but limited. I just wish I wasn't lactose intolerant so I could try the french toast. Also, my dad says that chicken fried steak is good, and that's pretty much his standard for whether or not the place is a good one.I understand that in the beginning there were some issues with waitstaff. Well, those reviews seem to be from pretty early on, and now the place is absolutely amazing. I always look forward to my next trip back. It's pricey, but worth it.(The only issue I ever have had there has been caused by fellow customers being annoying by being obnoxiously loud or crowding a bit into my space on the patio.)
