The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The inside bar area with tables is cool and not overly loud. There are outside areas that allow for people coming off the water. They very strictly enforce parking which is nice for their guests. Large portions of good food. Service was attentive. Nice view of the water and itâs occupants. They donât seem to tolerate poor guest behavior which is nice for everyone that wants a nice peaceful experience.

The title sums it up; Café on the Square provided good food with excellent service and a very inexpensive price tag. Breakfast on Saturday morning, the place was bustling; by 10 am there was a line outside. Nice selection of simple food, prepared in a timely manner and our server was on the ball.

I am violating my own sacred pledge to (almost) never give any place five stars. But five it is, since I was delighted by Perk Up, a café I didn't know existed until I drove by on my way out of San Marcos recently. It's bright and cheery, and a great place to sit, read the paper, and have one of their outstanding cappuccinos. Honestly, I'm a coffee snob, and the cappuccino I had at Perk Up really impressed me with its smooth, balanced flavor and depth. I also had one of their "breakfast sandwiches," which was actually a pretty conventional (but good) turkey and bacon sandwich with a fried egg thrown in. They ought to consider offering more standard breakfast sandwiches (such as egg, cheese and bacon or sausage on a croissant or muffin, etc) in my opinion, but that quibble doesn't take away from the quality of the coffee and friendly staff and environment. San Marcos suffers from more than its share of gloomy, hipster espresso places with truly mediocre coffee; Perk Up is a very welcome antidote.
