Hotel clerk said best Barbeque in County was at HEB the supermarket. Knowing HEB could not possibly have a barbeque pit at the store I chose instead to head McBeeâs. Ample parking and plenty of empty tables should have been my first clue, the pit was not smoking my second, and my third, tell tell, was the meat was in a 3 foot small glass case on the 20 foot counter, nothing on the counter but for the small glass case containing what appeared to be a small brisket, 5 or so sausage links, and I believe some ribs. Got the two meat special, the meat carver meticulously weighed each slice to insure I did not dare get over the allotted amount of brisket, the last slice was so thin I almost applauded her ability to cut so razor thin. With the sausage they simply cut it in half and slice it up. For my two sides, I chose pinto beans and cole slaw. I added a few onions, pickles and jalapenos from the condiment section to my tray and headed for a table. The smoke ring on the brisket was impressive as was the char on the meat. I donât like adding barbeque sauce on my meat, as it masks the flavor of smoked meat; Now for the taste test; I had a difficult time cutting the brisket with the plastic knife, but finally was able to cut a small bite size piece of brisket, the brisket was dry, tough, old, and had a gristle the entire length of the slice. The meat had absolutely no taste, as if they forgot to season on the pit, reminded me of a cut of cheap roast that was not seasoned. Sausage was marginal but dry, the Pinto Beans had a twang to them, probably fresh beans added to last weeks that did not sell, the cole slaw had no flavor, the onions were old probably left over from weekend rush, the pickles were the bright spot of the meal, but how can you screw up opening a jar and dumping into a serving container. After finishing my meal I noticed a glob of grease in corner of my tray, even the flies were repulsed. As I am writing this review my stomach is churning and my gag reflex is working overtime. If I had a choice between McBeeâs and a 4 day old burrito from the local convenience store I would head to the convenience store. Be ye therefore warned.

Original location of the local chain.
Warm, salty, smoky meat juices dripping down your fingers and your chin. That's what you can expect from a meal at McBee's Bar-B-Que. If you don't end up covered in BBQ sauce and meat drippings, you weren't at McBee's. The brisket is always the perfect balance of melt-in-your mouth tender meat and deliciously bad for you fat. Serving sizes are a good size, but not belt-busting. The cheesy potatoes are their best side dish. Typical barbecue joint dining room with wooden tables and paper towel rolls on the table. Great for a casual meal or for taking home.

Smoked with Texas Oak wood for up to 14 hours, True Texas BBQ offers barbecue by the plate or pound, plus delicious sides like brisket beans, creamed corn, potato salad and coleslaw.
The in-store barbecue venue truly offered true Texas bbq. Both the beef (lean end for us) and the turkey were exquisite. The free condiments and the sides were true Texas and delicious. We'll be repeat customers at other HEB stores for sure.
