Denny's

We were staying at a nearby hotel and couldn't find anywhere else that looked half way decent to have dinner. Our choices were the sketchy-looking Denny's or a filthy looking taco restaurant down the street. We chose the Denny's. The staff was fairly friendly, and the food took a very long time to come to our table, and tasted ok - just ok. The floor was dirty, as were a lot of things in the restaurant (windows, tables, etc). The waitress who rang up our bill didn't even speak or look at us - she obviously doesn't want to work there. We were not impressed and DO NOT recommend eating here. There is a McDonald's on the other side of the freeway. We should have gone there.

This is a new place in the area. First they ran out of Pepsi and Dr. Pepper. This is in a great location and there is a large presence of oilfield folks all around and several large truck stops close. They ran out of chicken thighs and legs this day. Everyone knows this would be popular but management failed to prepare ahead. The staff is not smiling. Plus is that the place was clean except for the restroom. If this place wants to make a difference in the area they need to step up a couple of notches and prepare more and have more training. Parking is not friendly for 3/4 ton pickups. It is tight parking for any full size auto. The team is 50/50 friendly. They pay these team members $12.00 hr. Not bad for fast food in the desert. The management team here needs to get with the program. With roughnecks, pipelines, production teams, travelers and truckers they need to get it right.

They do have a good burger, friends commented on it, I got the chicken fried steak and it was nothing to write home about.

I like Subway restaurants but I will have to say this one has one of the best cashiers I have ever come across. Helpful, polite, courteous. To bad I did not choose to eat here instead of the place next door. But I did get a good desert from subway and a nice cold Pepsi fountain drink.

This is one of the best places to eat in Pecos. Period. Home cooked meals served fast and friendly. Daily specials and a salad buffet is available. However, my favorite is the Fried Ham and Egg sandwich with chips.

Admittedly the interior of this restaurant needs help. It's very rustic and cleaning products and supplies, along with a refrigerator and freezer are at the back of the restaurant behind the table we sat at. The service was fast and friendly. We had burgers and fries and they were both good! The fries were slender cut and hot. I ordered the California burger and thoroughly enjoyed it. My husband had a cheeseburger with lettuce, tomatoes, and onions and also enjoyed his. We would go back. Hopefully storGe issues will be addressed by then.

Despite having an exceptional hotel in the Best Western Swiss Chalet, Pecos offers few desirable dining options. After reading the rave reviews of Permian Cafe on TripAdvisor, we made a point to find it (not easy) and went in with the intention of enjoying a great dinner there. We were surprised to see that it resembled a mess hall or dorm cafeteria rather than a restaurant -- no ambiance whatsoever. We checked out the self-service salad bar, which looked OK, and walked over to the hot food station. The night we stopped, all they offered was spaghetti with meat sauce and baked chicken, neither of which appealed to us, so we went elsewhere. The food may well have been very tasty, but we were looking for a pleasant place to eat as well as good food.

Old Mill Restaurant

This little restaurant has a simple menu with lots of variety. We tried the BBQ dinner. The meat was tender and tasty. It was thick slices of brisket. It was served with a bowl of barbecue sauce that tasted like it had a vinegar base. The sauce was ok but not what I prefer. The sides were potato salad and pinto beans. Both sides were good but nothing special. It was good basic food. We also tried the green beans that were cooked with onions, bacon and spices. The green beans were quite good. The service was friendly and quick. The atmosphere was noisy with several televisions. Overall, the restaurant was a good solid local restaurant with good prices.
