Bartleys BBQ

Bartleys has been one of my favorite barbecues in the metroplex for five or six years. First tried their food at a catering for Flint Hills Resources. I was to pick someone up at DFW airport amd their plane was delayed three hours from Quebec. As long as I was up that way I decided to go give Bartleys some business. Sliced sandwich was very very good. Young lady slicing the meat asked if I wanted point or flat which is always nice. One of my sides was cabbage and it was the first time I've ever been disappointed in anything I ate at Bartley's. This had just been boiled/steamed with no seasonings no salt no pepper that I could discern. Beyond bland. I salted it heavily and threw some jalapeños on it and made it somewhat edible. Also sauces and condiments were running low even though it was three hours before closing. Not a dealbreaker of course but I don't want to see this good restaurant trend downward like so many others do. You better be on top of your game if you're going to be a pitmaster these days in Texas.

This is a beautiful restaurant with excellent service. We interacted with five staff members and they all made a genuine effort to be welcoming. The flavor of the food was good but both our steaks and the mushrooms were over-seasoned. The filets were chewy and should have been much better for the price. The music was loud, which made everyone try to talk over it, so the atmosphere was not relaxing or conducive to quiet conversation. We probably will not return and that’s a shame because Perry’s has a lot going for it, but we can’t afford another $200 mistake. Thank you for your feedback. Its very unfortunate that you endured inferior food quality on your previous experience. Guest satisfaction, insofar that our patrons receive a comprehensive impeccable evening, is what we pride ourselves on as an establishment. We are known to generously season our steaks and understand that preference is not for all but we definitely love to modify our items to meet our guests needs. As far as the ambiance - we have many guest that feel the boisterous levels of noise can be intrusive to an evening - I'd love to accommodate this on your future visit and place you in a more intimate area, one more conducive to conversation. Please email me directly as I would like to extend compensation to incentivize your return, that is, - if you offer us the opportunity to make things right for you. I understand there is vast competition and its a privilege that you choose our brand when choosing your night out, among all the options available to you. Its important that we make things right. Tolbert's

Iplanned my visit to Tolberts several weeks ago when I learned a long time friend's band was playing there. Having never patronized the restaurant, I really didn't know what to expect food wise from the chili parlor with the famous moniker in downtown Grapevine, but it was a good surprise. Parking couldn't be better with a well lit public lot next door, a side entrance next to the stage that allowed me to grab a front row table a few feet from the stage. Eating later than normal, I asked for a menu, but not wanting the signature dich of red, I ordered the 8 oz. ribeye with a side of sweet potato fries and pintos. Asking for medium rare and expecting a medium steak, I wqs surprised that the well seasoned cut was actually medium rare. The fries were good, but the beans needed some extra seasoning (cured with the salt and pepper shakers).I was told the restaurant has live entertainment 5 nights a week which is nice coming from a town where decent live music means going to a dive bar. Question is would I go there again? Most certainly, the menu looked interesting and the frito pie is highly recommended (a Texas delicacy) but I'd leave the spicy items for earlier in the day.

One of our clients was attending a local conference, so we offered to take them to dinner. Based on the TA reviews of this place, we came here. It might be different in the main dining room, but the glassed in "patio" is so noisy that we couldn't even carry on a conversation. We couldn't hear our server, and he couldn't hear us. He should have noticed and offered to re-seat us. We had made reservations, so it wasn't like they were squeezing us in.Hi KayK0512. We are disappointed to hear that your experience with us was not more positive. We appreciate all of your feedback and we welcome the opportunity to exceed your expectations on your next visit. Bob's Steak and Chophouse

We were in transit from Shanghai to JFK and had to spend the night in Dallas at the Marriott near DFW. The hotel recommended Bob’s and it was a quick Uber ride to the restaurant. The valet parking featured a Bentley, Land Rover and Lamborghini, so we were aware that the crowd would be flashing bucks. Our OpenTable reservation was immediately honored and we were offered a table or a booth. As the noise level in the bar dining area, just past the reception, was very loud, I requested to be seated at a quiet booth. Even in a “quiet” area, the noise level was excruciatingly loud and it was hard to converse with my husband. As we were both exhausted from a 13-hour flight from China, it was just as well. We tried a wedge salad, beef barley soup, and a filet mignon with garlic mashed and carrot. The food was all very good. The desserts looked huge and tasty, but we passed on them. The acid test: would I go back? If we are ever back for a night at DFW, I would definitely go back, but would go early or late to hopefully avoid the noise and the crowds.

This place serves seafood three ways: fried, grilled, and blackened. I had grilled catfish. It was okay, not great. This is one of those seafood restaurants where they give you a platter of french fries and hope you don't notice that they aren't serving you much fish. My highlight was the banana pudding. It had too much whipped cream and not enough banana pudding, but it was good.

Stopped by solo 3 pm on a Wednesday and loved the employees’ attitudes. I hate chains because there are rules. Here the employees rule. (there is a sister location in Trophy Club.). When I hesitated about the turkey they threw on a free piece, same for a piece of fatty brisket. Everyone was joking around, I was the only customer there, which tells me they love their boss and their boss loves them. Open for five years, I expect they’ll last another 50more years.

Oldwest Cafe

While traveling from outstate, my wife & I joined a local-resident-friend for breakfast here. Good golly the decor of the place is sooooo Western. It was fun looking around the place. The fun started at the entrance doors with pistol-barrel-door-handles. Inside there's a LOT of Old West and amusing memorabilia affixed to the walls. The tables have a checkerboard pattern... one lady was playing checkers with her daughter... using little creamer cups for checkers. Oh! The tables have "recessed" jelly and sugar holders, so the diner doesn't need to "shuffle" on the table top to deal with those items. The "Mason jar" jug serving glassware for drinks is a nice "olden days" touch.And... just imagine... going through swinging saloon doors to proceed to the restrooms! Then there is the Modern Technology aspect of the place. When we arrived the place was jammed with patrons and we were happy we got there just in time to get a table. I was surprised to find the wait staff using electronic tablets to take the orders. Then, when our meals arrived so very fast, I understood. The waiter had been going from table-to-table taking orders, but didn't need "run the orders" to the kitchen. The kitchen staff were working on the orders as soon as the waiter "pushed the button" upon completing the order for each table. I was quite impressed by this process. The menu is loaded with all types of breakfast (and lunch) foods with western tltles for the dishes. The place appears to be a favorite for local folks. We joined the entire cafe's clientele in applauding the completed marriage proposal/acceptance by two patrons... which was announced by one of the staff. As for the food itself... well... my cinnamon French toast was a bit dry. My wife said her pancakes were a little dry. I suppose I would best describe our meals as "Average," but the FUN atmosphere and impressive service warrants an overall "Very Good" rating.
