I eat at McDonald's in most every town, state, country I am in because it is my all-time favorite. This one was totally awful! We stopped here on lunch on a Sunday because we were all starving and we hadn't really seen anything else. Good crowd and it was clean but the food was a huge disappointment to all 4 in my group. Hamburgers were as dry as dirt, the french fries had absolutely no taste to them. Definitely not a typical McDonald's. Maybe they were having a bad day? I would not return.

Dunlap Restaurant

Dunlap Restaurant has been a staple in the Sequatchie Valley for over 50 years, serving Southern-style home cooking!

My wife and I were out exploring part of the Cumberland Plateau that we hadn't visited previously... When we arrived in Dunlap it was about 10:50 AM and we hadn't had anything to eat! We love small town restaurants…as well as neighborhood diners and dives. As per the sign out front, the Dunlap Restaurant has been open since 1962. This is their fifty-seventh year in business, quite an accomplishment! This local favorite is open 7 days a week for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The dining area at the Dunlap Restaurant is classic…with booths, tables and a counter with stools. The tables even have the old time style checkered table coverings! The staff appeared to be seasoned veterans and most of the customers seemed to be regulars. As I mentioned, we arrived at 10:50 AM and our waitress told us that they serve breakfast until 11 AM! (Our favorite meal)Laurie’s breakfast standard has always been 2 eggs over medium, bacon, hash browns and toast. In this case, based on our waitress’s recommendation, Laurie decided on homemade biscuits rather than toast. Dunlap Restaurant’s Classic Breakfast comes with meat and 2 or 3 sides. ($6.75 for 2 sides and $7.35 for 3) For her second side, she opted for the fried apples. The eggs were about perfect and while the bacon and hash browns were fine, it was obvious that they’d been precooked. (Our first clue was just how quickly we got our food)As for the biscuits…which I also ordered…they were warm, dense and yummy! They were so good that I added a photo in their honor. I ordered the same Classic Breakfast as Laurie, only mine came with sausage patties. I’m felt that they were precooked as well and while they were good, they would have been better fresh off the grill. As for the fried apples, they were a very nice change of pace…a real plus! For lunch the Dunlap Restaurant has sandwiches and plate lunches. (Classic meat and two sides $6.25, with meat and three sides $6.90) The dinner menu includes items like a 12 oz. ribeye for $14.95, southern fried catfish for $9.25, a hot roast beef platter for $8.95 or a half-fried chicken dinner for $9.95. Unless otherwise stated, entrees include a potato, salad and 2 vegetable sides. The Dunlap Restaurant is a pleasant place to dine with lots of friendly folks and substantial fare at great prices. Our breakfast was above average for the price but it would have been kicked up a notch if it had all just come off the grill.
