The Bedford is beautifully British. This old building [ but with modern services] is a bit like staying in a manner house. Great restaurant. You have to have a drink or tea out in the walled garden, its quiet , green, peaceful and even with a short stay is worth relaxing and enjoying. Good parking if your driving and beside the historical canal with its lovely walks. Also only a minute or two to the shopping district.

The townhouse hotel is privately owned and has been lovingly restored offering individually designed rooms with Hypnos Lansdowne Cashmere beds,Samsung 40 inch Smart TVs, in room tablets with free digital newspapers, Netflix, (some have free magazines), luxury bedding, bathrobes, Twinning's tea and coffee facilities, Nespresso machines in addition to high spec en suite facilities.
Owners are delightful and helpful. Breakfast is very efficient as Gill has a place set for each room and ready to serve the order which is placed the night before. We also appreciated the amenities in our room (assortment of teas and coffees and evening sherry). Of particular note if you’re concerned about street noise as we are: our room 6 at the top floor facing the street was very quiet since the double paned windows block out all noise. Finally, it is located an easy walk into town which has an assortment of very good restaurants ( we especially enjoyed meals at The Annex, Cornish Arms)

This was an outstanding experience. Where to start? Breakfast. You will sometimes see people comment on the best breakfast they have tasted. Well, we have had scores, maybe hundreds of breakfasts but never one that came close to this. Worth coming for this alone. The bedroom was beautiful, comfortable and a pleasure to sleep in. The lotions and bathroom soaps were the best in any hotel we have been in. (We are sourcing and buying some). Friendly. Great location on the high street. We did not take a meal but wish we had. (Our bus arrived late on Sunday midday).

Bedroom was large, nicely decorated and modern. Spotlessly clean. Room has everything you need including an iron/ironing board, complementary hot and cold drinks and a good hairdryer. Huge fluffy quality towels provided in the bathroom. Rooms on the front are lovely with a view of the Main Street but the beauty is you couldn’t hear the noise from it. Only one little niggle…the mattress in my room was incredibly hard and not at all comfy,..however none of the rest of our party had any issues and said their beds were very good, so it’s probably down to my own personal choice! Would definitely return if in the area again.

With views over the surrounding Dartmoor National Park, One Drake Road is situated in the centre of Devon's World Heritage town of Tavistock. Built in the late 1700s, previously owned by the Duke of Bedford, this unique and elegant Georgian Town House is being lovingly restored by the resident owners. Our aim is to offer our guests a warm welcome and great service.
This place is quirky and there is so much thought gone into the decoration. Spotlessly clean, smells amazing. Many thoughtful touches in rooms. Enjoyed our stay here and Tavistock is so lovely to walk around. No parking but some spaces available on nearby roads. Coffee in the room was very good. The shower was luke warm at best unfortunately and the fan wasn't working in bathroom, did try to call the owners as they weren't in but no answer.

Extremely disappointing and would advise you to avoid at all costs! We arrived to find the place deserted, rang and rang the number and knocked on multiple doors (multiple times!). Then eventually the landlady appeared asking "are you staying with us?". Ummm, no just thought I'd hang around in your car park looking lost for 20mins for the shear fun of it?! We were showed to our room and on first appearances seemed ok, but the more you looked the more you didn't really want to! So much muck and dust. Every surface I had to wipe with antibac wipes, which I luckily had packed. I even made the mistake of catching sight of behind the sink in the bathroom, as I was washing my hands. The thickest, biggest cobweb covered in thick layers of dust, so obviously hadn't been cleaned in an absolute age. The fridge was in the wardrobe, one of the most bizarre places, when there was plenty of other floor space it could have been placed. Only 1 tiny bin in the bathroom, so for saying we had our dog (and all her food packaging etc) with us as well as snacks for ourselves, just having one small bin was completely inadequate. The enclosed patio was ok, but stagnant water in an old bowl wasn't a great first impression, especially with a dog. Beds were SO soft! I guess if you're used to/like a soft mattress then that wouldn't be a problem, but it made for a very uncomfortable and sleepless night. The next morning the breakfast room followed the same theme as the bedroom regarding standards of cleanliness. Every surface was pretty much covered in layers of dust, there were a couple of blue bottles flying around, so we didn't even want to touch the dried up looking fruit salad or the butter that was out in the open. As with a similar previous review the landlord and landlady didn't ask at all how our night's sleep was, how we found the room, what our plans were for the rest of our stay. All pretty standard things you chat about at a b&b. It was a very strange atmosphere and vibe. Not at all homely or friendly unfortunately. We were meant to stay for 3 nights, but made a quick exit after breakfast, so only stayed the 1 night. As I was unable to find any other availability in dog friendly accommodation within budget, we decided to head home. Got home and enjoyed all the Jubilee celebrations from the comfort and cleanliness of our own home! Such a shame, as we were so looking forward to a break on Dartmoor over the extended BH weekend. I have given just 1 star....for the nice poached eggs for breakfast (felt that was the safest option!), good effective shower with plenty of hot water and (thank goodness) clean bed linen. I wish I had taken heed of previous reviews before booking and wasting so much money! Unfortunately, the whole stay had to be paid for but I knew that from the T+C's before deciding to leave early, so just had to deal with that. We couldn't have stayed there any longer. Think twice before you book!

We stayed here as I wanted somewhere with dinner on site so we could get some work done without distractions. I must admit I didn’t look at the location too much and as we drove down a long single track road in the countryside I did wonder what I’d done! We parked the car and were immediately met by the lady owner who showed us the goats. The place is in a beautiful setting and there is a lovely courtyard garden as well as countryside views. Our dinner was excellent- huge portions of home cooked food and I had to sit for a while after finishing dessert before going upstairs to our room. The wifi was ok, it worked well enough for the work we were doing but probably isn’t up to gaming. The room was large and had 2 beds and a good selection of teas and coffees. If you like sleeping in late then take a sleep mask as there was no blackout blind ? We had a good breakfast and then saw the goats again before leaving. A great experience and very different to a chain hotel, great fun.

Friendly atmosphere & range of beers and food. Plenty of seating, good range and - well kept beer. Locals were welcoming and helpful with tourist and other advice. Obviously a popular local and visitor venue - handy location on one of the Main Street.

This independently owned, multi-award winning 16 bedroom hotel has been thrilling guests for over 50 years with some of the South West's very best food, drink and accommodation. It holds 4 AA silver stars, and 2 AA rosettes for culinary excellence. The hotel stands high on a hill, overlooking 5 acres of beautiful gardens, and beyond that, the breathtaking scenery of the Tamar Valley. 16 stylishly furnished en-suite bedrooms offer outstanding comfort and luxury. Most have balconies overlooking the valley. Food is high on the agenda here, with 90% of produce sourced locally. Service is everything you'd hope for: warm, welcoming, friendly and helpful, without a hint of stuffiness.
We had a fabulous time on a three day gourmet weekend break at this hotel. The room was beautiful - spotlessly clean, comfortable and well appointed with a large balcony and amazing views over the Tamar Valley. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful and we could not fault the service. The food is on the expensive side but well worth it! We have stayed at many hotels over the years and it was amongst the best we have eaten. Only downside is that we have both put on weight!!! Would definitely love to return.
