Iquique (Spanish pronunciation: [iˈkike]) is a port city and commune in northern Chile, capital of both the Iquique Province and Tarapacá Region. It lies on the Pacific coast, west of the Pampa del Tamarugal which is part of Atacama Desert. It had a population of 180,601 according to the 2012 census. It is also the main commune of the Greater Iquique. The city developed during the heyday of the saltpetre mining in Atacama Desert in the 19th century. Originally a Peruvian city with a large Chilean population, it was ceded to Chile as result of War of the Pacific (1879–1883). Today it is one of only two free ports of Chile.

We visited this restaurant (the one in Playa Brava) two times during the same week. The food is really good. They offer happy hour promotions till 10 pm. The portions are usually large. I really like the "patatas al alioli", but found the "tortilla española" to be too oily. The pisco sour is one of the best I have tried, as it does not taste like lemon juice only. Although the prices are not cheap, they are not crazy expensive either. Just to give you an idea, the six of us ate and drank for a total of $99.000 CLP ($153 USD approx). I recommend this place.

I'll caveat this review: we were ready for dinner around 7pm each night, which is early by Chilean standards. Lots of restaurants in Iquique don't even open until 8pm. At El Wagon, we were of course early birds, and they were happy to serve us, if not perplexed by our timing. We pretty much had the place to ourselves, so I can't comment on the "usual crowd," other than to say that the place was nice inside, the food was good, so I imagine it caters to an upscale crowd.Service, by Chilean standards, is not what Americans normally expect. I was told that the waiters tend to stay away from your table until you call them over, which I found annoying at first, but then came to realize was not poor service, just their usual practice. So, that being said, the service was fine. The food was interesting and delicious. I had grilled sea bass, which was perfect. I know the wine paring should have called for white - but I'll drink bold Chilean red wine with a peanut butter sandwich - so I had my favorite Chilean red, Casillero del Diablo. The restaurant is located on the La Cavancha peninsula, just across the street from the Terrado Suites Hotel, which is where we stayed. We were there for a week, and there are plenty of nice restaurants nearby, but we came to El Wagon twice, so that should say something.

This place is awesome! Definitely no other place in iquique like this. Really cool on the inside with different types of rooms and a great menu. The food is delicious, patatas bravas are great for sharing with friends and I love the ceviche. They have a unique drink menu with funny names. The service is good, definitely better than other places in town, but still not awesome. There's a nice sitting area (gets super crowded at night) that opens up onto Baquedano St. I love this place and definitely recommend it!

A spectacular restaurant at the top of Terrado Hotel by Cavancha beach. We have visited it several times during our stay and it always offered great food and very nice and attentive service. As it's one of the highest buildings in the area the view from the top (19th) floor is worth coming anyway.

Restobar located in Cavancha's calm peninsula, specially set to enjoy a special experience the better of the regional, Peruvian and Mediterranean kitchen. We rely on a bar that it offers coctelerÃa with the richest exotic fruits of the region and with a g
We had high hopes of this basically fish restaurant as we were the only two people in this cavernous restaurant. Well, they found us a table. We then got a bottle of slightly largely (and overpriced) expensive white wine. We ordered lasagna and fish soup. There was no lasagna, so that had to be changed to a cannelloni, and the fish soup turned out to be a mere white fish soup. So, a bit disappointing. The service, whilst incredibly nice, turned out to be slower than anyone could or should expect. Altogether a disappointment.

We were staying in Terrado Arturo Prat (in Plaza Arturo Prat) and intended having dinner in their restaurant but, since it didn't open until 8pm, and it was only 7pm, we decided to take a pre-dinner walk down the length of Paseo Baquedano to the sea front and back. When we got to the seafront we saw the 5-star Gavina Sens - a rather bland high-rise - and, on taking a look inside, found this very inviting-looking restaurant with panoramic sea views. The menu was very extensive, very delicious sounding (not your usual bland S.American offerings) and (even more surprisingly) bi-lingual and expertly translated into English. It was also incredibly reasonably priced - even the wine - given the 5-star venue and the view. So, of course, we had to give it a try, and we were astounded with both the quality of the food and the beautiful presentation. We began by sharing a Seafood Risotto (p8900, about $11) and it was one of the best and tastiest I've ever had. For our mains my partner ordered the "Asado de Tira" (short ribs) (p9500, about $12) which was somewhat disappointing because they were not grilled (Argentine style) but more like stewed. However it was accompanied by a most delicious choclo mash and grilled vegies. I went for a fillet with a chocolate and blueberry sauce served with quinoa (something like cous-cous) and green asparagus. (p13,600 about $17). We also had an excellent wine - one of their priciest - Toro Piedra Gran Reserva (p18,000 about $22). An absolute bargain..!!! Everything (aside from the typically bland and forgettable Chilean bread roll) and the rather unsmiling service was really first-class and I cannot understand why nobody seems to have reviewed this restaurant before. I very much doubt that there could be a better restaurant in Iquique if in all of Chile for that matter. And I say that as someone who knows the country pretty well..!!

I had the crab and cheese and the chicken and cheese empanadas. There is a great selection of seafood empanadas and they are reasonably priced. A good place to go for lunch if you are in the area! Yummy!

We were return visitors, having really enjoyed the Thai options in the past. However there are very few Thai Dishes remaining. We ordered three, Pad Thai, a vegetable dish, and a soup. All three tasted exactly the same! Same base, same vegetables, same spices. It is great to have fresh tasting food, but we were disappointed in the current menu. As other reviewers have said, it is a mostly outdoor space, a covered patio which is lovely in warmer weather and pretty chilly in the winter.

I have been living in Iquique for a while now, but had never heard or seen of Kiru as it is a little out of sight for non-tourists. It's next to a nice hostel and a popular hotel a block from the beach and the actual restaurant is so beautiful and relaxing inside. Most places in Iquique don't have a vibe, but Kiru is great. The waiters are super friendly and attentive, the menu is great and you can't go wrong with any of the seafood. Most dishes are about 10,000-11,000 clp ($16ish), but pretty big portions. The pisco sours are really good and I'll definitely be going back here soon. It's perfect for any type of group, family, couple, friends, etc. There's really a lot of space so you don't feel piled on top of other tables.Dear Caroline, thank you for taking time to write us, we apreciate your comment and we are glad you liked our restaurante, hope to see you soon.Executive Chef, Manuel Etcheverry
