Nestled within Taman woon & tucked away from the main road, Kangli Yuan Restaurant is a quiet little eatery popular with the locals. The service is definitely not top notch and can easily pass off as a tad snobbish & arrogant. But we were here for the food so we couldn't care less.
We ordered a claypot pork slices cooked in dried chili & salted fish, a potato leave vege fried with garlic & a stewed chicken feet in a spicy sauce. The vegetables were fresh and sweet. The chichken feet was tasty and packed a punch. The claypot pork was the least of our favourite as it lacked flavour and the meat was a bit over fried and dry. Overall a good lunch and price was reasonably cheap.

We were driving along the highway to Batu Gajah on our way to A Famosa Freeport Zone for some shopping. On the way back, we got hungry and decided to stop at this quaint restaurant located next to the Petronas gas station along a row of shop lots.
Mind you I have never been a fan of Asam Pedas. I decided what the heck, let's give this one a try. This very basic restaurant serves Ikan Bakar, Asam Pedas with various types of fish, 1 type of vegetable, local ulam and sambal belacan. That's it. So i picked my fish, half a plate of rice, stir fried cabbage, local ulam and sambal belacan. I was blown away! the Asam Pedas was sooo good we had seconds! Afterwards, a nice cold glass of iced tea to quench our thirst on that hot humid day.
Just across the road I spied some food trucks selling local malay kuih and my all time favourite kuih keria! i was ecstatic...we just had to buy a few types for tea time later :)

If you happen to be or pass-by Gemas, you must try the best malay style chicken rice. Located at the Gemas Bus and Taxi Station, Nasi Ayam Gemas Mustafah goes way back in the 80 where it started as a muslim chinese food thus the chicken rice is a fusion between chinese and malay style.
The portion is generous and price is affordable.
A must try.
