It is located 40 km (25 mi) from Thanjavur and 273 km (170 mi) from Chennai and is the headquarters of the Kumbakonam taluk of Thanjavur district. The town is bounded by two rivers, the Kaveri River to the north and Arasalar River to the south. Kumbakonam is known as a "temple town" due to the prevalence of a number of temples here and is noted for its Mahamaham festival which attracts people from all over the globe.

Murugan Cafe is located in the prime area of Kumbakonam at a junction where the buses to Swamimalai turn. The hotel serves Vegetarian food. The food is authentic south indian. You get Veg meals during lunch. Dosa and Idly are available during breakfast and dinner. One of the best and popular hotel in Kumbakonam. They have maintained the quality and reputation for almost a decade now.

Best degree filter coffee in Kumbakonam. Strong and slightly sweet. Non descript joint. Just have your coffee and move on. No place to sit at their store near Nageshwara temple.Dont try any snacks-may be disappointed.
