Budget friendly sashimi and big portions. Recommend to share the dishes. The quality is acceptable if you lower your expectations given the price. The fried rice have the wok fragrance which is a must have for authentic fried rice taste - typically chinese cooking style. The chicken skewers are another must try. The salmon sashimi have 2 sizes - one is one portion which comprise of 5 slabs, not slices. And the half portion is 3 slabs which i have attached a photo of it. These sashimi are not cut, so you have to use spoon to cut it which is the fun part. Recommend for jap food lovers but not those picky type. The place is kind of old & cramp but still have space for eating.

Opened its door on 1965, Umeko Taiwanese Restaurant authentic Taiwanese cuisine serving international guests for over fifty years with top quality produce and the irreplaceable ingredients of pride, tradition, and excellence. Located in Historic Liu Tiao
In principle, Iâd give 4.5 stars as it really is a good restaurant with very friendly waitresses (who even speak a bit of English, especially the elder lady owner)... the only âproblemâ was that I had eaten in the sister restaurant (right opposite) the night before. Dear kla2015Thank you for sharing your "problem" with us and we are delighted that you visited both our Umeko Taiwanese Restaurant and Japanese Restaurant right across the street from each other. There are very few restaurants in Taipei over 50 years of same-owner history, we are very proud of this fact. We also want to THANK YOU for your support and happy that you enjoyed your dinning experiences twice.

The location is hidden behind an old factory so you might need a local to show you around. The meals are set meals with no particular menu. They will let you know what the prices are and what they have when you arrive. You must book in advance and also get directions from them, as you may easily miss the entrance. Parking is free.

This is a good value choice for Japanese all you can eat buffet. There is a good range of options- sashimi bar, a number of nigiri and maki which are laid out as well. They also have a hand roll station. There is a carving station for beef , tempura, very good fried rice, a range of Japanese dishes. The dessert area has an extensive range of cakes and sweets , and there is free flow beer and wine along with many soft drinks. The quality is ok, this will not be the best Japanese food you have but it is pretty good overall and you will be satisfied. The value is incredible for what you get, only about 540 NT for adults and 360 for kids under 12.

We picked out a random place for dinner and this came up. Went on a Sunday evening and it was not crowded - great place to take kids.Ordered Unagi bento sets and the portion was reasonable. Overall very attentive service and the friendly staff would also make effort to engage in small talk. Great vibe and atmosphereThanks, JJHong for your kind review. Also happy to learn that you enjoyed our Unagi bento set. Our Unagi rice are prepared with live eels daily, unlike many places using frozen packs at a lower cost. Hope you enjoyed your trip to Taipei and see you soon. JOHN

This venue has set menus at NT$699. Generally the standard of food is not bad, however, whilst service is polite it feels rushed. Would I recommend? I suppose there are alternatives to explore I'm Taipei.

Family group of 6 people (2 kids <10yrs) and four adults had dinner. We had a 'fixed' menu which consisted of several courses and several choices within each course. Beautifully presented and lovely food (see photos). Attentive service. NT$3,650 (~£100) in total represents decent value. Is it 5*? Almost! However, unfortunately they ran out of beer (we'd only had two) and didn't have any suitable substitutes so that faux pas convinces me to give them 4*
