The Maule Region (Spanish: VII Región del Maule, pronounced [ˈmau̯.le]) is one of Chile's 15 first order administrative divisions. Its capital is Talca. The region derives its name from the Maule River which, running westward from the Andes, bisects the region and spans a basin of about 20,600 km. At the northern end of the valley is Maipo, the oldest of Chile's wine regions, famous for its Cabernet Sauvignon. At the opposite end is Maule, which still grows Pais, the first grape brought to South America.
