According to 2009 census, its district population is 140,753; 115,930 live in the city itself. The district covers an area of 473 km (183 sq mi) at an elevation of 68 m (223 ft). The district is the most populous after the provincial center of Manisa and the second most populous district center, in Turkey's Aegean Region.
