My wife felt like some Chinese food, so we went to the restaurant 'Lotus' during our prolonged weekend in Brunnen, although the location is not very special, just between a big parking lot and the busy Bahnhofstrasse. There is outdoor seating, for which we were happy on that very warm late summer evening. There are some potted plants, especially bamboo, also some umbrellas. The Chinese waitress, who came to take the orders, spoke a Swiss dialect like a local. Unfortunately, after that, she never showed up again. The remaining staff, several young Chinese ladies, who attended us afterwards, never said a word, no smiles, and the plates just plunked down on the table. Maybe they were shy, bored or just unfriendly - or maybe all together. The menu-card is quite big and there are not just Chinese, but also several dishes from Southeast Asia (Vietnam, Thailand) on offer. My wife had Green Papaya Salad as a starter, which was very mild and rather bland, if one compares them with the ones that are served in Thailand or Laos. I selected Wonton with pork filling, first steamed, then fried. They were tasty, but I am not sure, if the information given with it: 'Wo Tip Beijing style' is correct. As a main course they also offer dishes, that were called 'Tiban' (a name I have never encountered before - not in China or anywhere in South East Asia). It is explained here as dishes served on a hot cast iron plate. Something I know mainly from India, where it is called 'sizzler'.The Tiban Duck, we ordered, was rather tough to eat and dry. The best dish of the evening was the 'Beef with Thai Basil', which was tender, well spiced and with all kind of ingredients. We both enjoyed this dish very much. Portions, especially the mains, are so big, that it is almost impossible to finish them, but that we know from China.Towards the end the patron came to our table, without saying a word or looking at us, just filling up our glasses and taking away the bottles. Later a girl took the bill with the banknote that we had left with it. When she never showed up again after quite some time, we had to inquire. First she brought the receipt and when we asked for the change, she came with it too. Nobody said goodbye.

This traditional restaurant has now reopened as an Asian speciality restaurant serving dishes from China, Vietnam and Thailand. The food is excellent, the service very attentive, and the ambience super thanks to the good spacing of the tables. Open every day except Monday, both for lunch and dinner. The prices are very fair, and our evening that was an anniversary was super.

Sitting directly on the lake with the wonderful views lake Lucerne has to offer we got a very friendly reception and service. We tried the Chinese cuisine and it was excellent! The curry was greatly spicy like we got it in Asia and the sweet and sour crispy beef was excellent. The "new Schwert" is definitively a great choice.pore
