A delightful cake and confectionary shop, with a sizeable tea room. Choose your cake(s) in the shop, then go through to sit down in the tea room. Your cakes are brought through, and you order your drink - coffee is good, and Earl Grey tea is served with a hand-sewn teabag!Don't leave it too late in the afternoon to visit or the best cakes will have gone. We particularly like the vanilla slices, Linzertorte and spiced apple tart.

We dropped in here for a coffee as we could see people sitting on the balcony overlooking a lovely view. As we entered we saw a wonderful display of cakes and were easily tempted. We thoroughly enjoyed our Black Forest cake, florentine, latte and cappuccino. The waitress was friendly and took some trouble when we asked for a photo. Give it a visit.

OK this is not a fancy restaurant, so if you want fine dining go elsewhere. You won't find a five-star chef, and there are no tablecloths. BUT if you are looking for a place for a drink or two, a light meal, and you want to have some fun as well, I can recommend the Mountain Café wholeheartedly. The food was way better than I anticipated, and the prices were fair (and this is otherwise an expensive resort). Friendly Staff.P.S. I am from Colorado USA and this place is similar to the night spots in Aspen or Vail if you've ever been there. You can come in ski boots (I did) but would also look OK if you were dressed in street clothes. The crowd is young - mostly 20- and 30-somethings when I was there - but I did not feel out of place and I am nearly 60. P.P.S. I don't smoke, but for those who do, they have a smokers' lounge (and no, I did not smell smoke from the other room so don't worry...)

Backerei Konditorei Widmer

Situated in the centre of down town, near the station, Widmer, previously Simmen, has always produced a great range of fine tarts, quiches, pastries and breads, as well as hot food. You choose the cold food at the counter, pay for it, then take it to your table where a waitress takes your drink order! The open fruit tarts are good, as is the cremeschnitte. The bread is some of the best in town, too.
