Montereale family and the new chef Giordano Bertolina welcome you in a modern and informal ambience. High quality cuisine enriched with seasonal products. A wide range of fine wines is available, and the wine shop stocks 4,000 bottles from all over the wo
One of the few Michelin restaurants in the region. Decor is quite dissapointing, it felt a little like an old age home. Service isnt as sharp as other Michelins, though they are friendly. Probably my biggest criticism are the prices which are easily 30-40 Euros more expensive then other 1 star Michelin restaurant menu options. Why do Swiss establishments feel entitled to over-charge? O.k, now about the food: we had the largest menu option (8 courses). Food was good, not menorable though. The dessert courses were much more impressive. Nice to meet the young Chef. I feel with a decor makeover, finer service training, a drop in price and a little more imagination with the main courses this place could be much better.

We wanted to take our nephew to Loverciano for his first taste of venison on his last evening with us before returning home. When shown to our seats I was shocked to see that just a few tables away a family of five were dining and that a child of about five was being "entertained" by an Ipad or Ibook which was faced towards the rest of the room....with the volume on. If parents are unable to take their children out for a family meal in a restaurant without the support of IT I suggest that they all stay at home and practise the art of conversation instead.... However the fact that the proprietors allowed such an intrusion is astounding. The first courses were good but the desserts were a huge disappointment - a mille feuille which lacked some 997 feuilles with a pale and tasteless cream filling which might just have seen a solitary egg and the chocolate pudding's vanilla sauce was also anaemic, thin and insipid. All this with the child's abandoned cartoons as "background music" and a bill for nearly 200chfrs for three.....not good enough and we have vowed not to go back.

If the view is what matters to you and you are in Mendrisio there is no better place than the Eremo of of San Nicolao. Food is typical ticinese the choice is somewhat limited but still enticing. From polenta to other local preparations. Don forget to ask the manager to visit the wine cellar just behind the church in the rock. Amazing. And finally pay a visit to the toilet. Do not want to spoil the surprise but it is worth it.

Walking in the old neighborhood of Mendrisio, I was attracted by this property because it was crowded; which I think is mostly a good sign.As the heading says, this restaurant offers a wide selection of pizzas. But I wanted to try other dishes. So I ordered an appetizer, a main course and a dessert: "Tomino" cheese baked with grilled zucchini; risotto with apples and Taleggio cheese; nougat parfait. Everything was good or very good (except perhaps that the risotto was a bit too much salty for my taste). The service was courteous. As I said, the restaurant was packed: in particular there were large groups of families with children, perhaps because they were celebrating the last school day. Then I was afraid of being neglected and wait a long time. In fact I didn't wait little, but not even too much; and in any case the waiter spontaneously kept me aware about the progress of my dishes (I think this form of customer focus is important). The price for the foods I mentioned, plus a glass of good local white wine, and a water bottle, was over 56 CHF. A normal price for Switzerland, then high for most of the other European countries. But this is common knowledge. In any case, I recommend this restaurant.

Located in the historical street of the Wineries of Mendrisio, the âOsteria Lanternaâ is the perfect place to enjoy the traditional good dishes, accompanied by a wide selection of Ticino and Italian wines. The tipical inn, made from ancient cellars, has t
This is a delicious and friendly restaurant. The neighborhood is adorable with colorful and cute architecture. The restaurant is domed in brick with the owner/manager dressed in smart attire and the waiters in white and black. I found the people working here friendly and professional. The food is excellent. I ate simply for lunch only having a plate of tomatoes with a lovely vinegar/mustard dressing and tagliolini ai funghi porcini. Both were excellent. The porcini were so fresh and the tagliolini were homemade. The house merlot from Ticino was simply perfect.

Our 2nd visit to this restaurant, in a quiet back street of Mendrisio, and really cannot fault it. The service, ambiance and food are all top quality. The maitre'd in particular - his depth of knowledge of the dishes, the ingredients providence etc are 2nd to none, and make the place a real pleasure to visit. The weather helped of course - a beautiful sunny early evening with views from the back garden into the high mountains around - it all made for a fantastic evening. The menu is extensive, the wines really top quality and mostly from the local vineyards. Has to be one of the best places I've eaten in for a long time, and would totally recommend it to all others.

This is almost a must for travellers to Lugano, to eat the traditional polenta and cured meat from the caves (grotto) that have been here for centuries. We did not have very high expectations because we were here on business, but the ambience was certenly authentic and the food acceptable. We learned that the north italians (this is the italian part of Switserland) are called polentoni by the southern Italians. The great mountain view and the history helped to consider this a nice find.

It was recommended by our concierge and did not disappoint. Ample wine list we ordered octopus appetizer that was quite good and couldn't resist a pesto pasta dish and lasagne. All delicious. Lakeview dining with wonderful staff and a good meal. We had a lovely time.
